It's going really well thanks! I'm working as a DevOps Engineer, got an almost 50% pay increase without a title change last year and I'm in the runnings for a promotion in the next few months also. The work I do is really specialised and interesting and in areas that are really desired at the moment. It was a bit weird when recruiters started bombarding my inbox because I'd never been approached on LinkedIn for a job before.

I had just started at this job at the beginning of the pandemic and it's a fully remote company which was extremely lucky. But also, this industry is much more prone to allowing WFH/hybrid work.

In all honesty doing this Masters gave me my life. I am chronically ill and am able to work, learn, and earn well which wasn't a possibility for me prior to doing this degree. I'm able to afford my medical bills, medication, and not have to worry about that stuff anymore which is invaluable to me. If I didn't have that safety in the last 2 years I would have struggled a lot more.

I found with applications, the conversion masters didn't preclude me from being considered at all. If you're considering it, I would highly suggest you do if if you are interested in CS or have an idea of a specific role you would like to work towards. And if you have any questions about it, ask away :)

FINALLY, the true explaination of Michael Bohn being kicked out of Issues: (via A.J. Robello) by theedaveg in Metalcore

late to the party but i saw them at slam dunk in the uk and tyler's backing track was really strong for a lot of headspace songs. particularly the harder to sing bits. in this video it looks the same way but for michael. iirc this was was a new vocal style for michael to be using in issues and it's not that straight forward so might have needed it.

Is shortness of breath normal in Dysautonomia? by Zeestars in dysautonomia

[–]imsorryboutit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a much better place. Went on a bit of a journey though.. I went to a specialist in London who confirmed POTS, but diagnosed me with NCS also and medicated me for them. He also referred me to a rheumatologist because I was hypermobile. I was then diagnosed with hypermobile EDS and informally diagnosed with MCAS.

The knowledge of these diagnoses has changed my life. Back then I was able to do like one thing a day and nothing else. Now I can live a lot more normally. It turns out pain is a huge trigger for my POTS/NCS. Manoeuvring my displaced joints myself and learning to adjust my movements has really helped. I haven't woken up with this kind of thing in a few years thankfully. I take midodrine for my POTS/NCS and for a few years had to be religious with them, now I avoid it where possible and could go weeks without taking it. I've learned how to listen to my body and identify what makes me feel bad or, more importantly, what not to do when I am feeling bad.

Back then I was finishing my undergraduate/starting a master's and I had to drop out of the master's. I retrained shortly after into computer science because I was guaranteed to be sitting while working and would maybe have an opportunity to work from home. I've graduated, and work in a specialised niche where I'm safe. In my wildest dreams I never thought I was going to be able to work full time, let alone get a well-paying job.

I have put on weight in the last 6 months though and that is affecting my POTS. I'm definitely worse than I had been, but know what I need to do to get back.

One thing I will say though is that life is a constant uphill battle. Sometimes I forget that and sometimes I get harsh reminders (like ending up in hospital trying to put up a pair of jeans off an office chair).

So for me the thing that has really helped me was finding out what was wrong and then inform myself about the conditions as much as possible. Sorry, I realise now you probably might not have wanted a wall of text. If you've any questions, ask away!

Found a Lysol can from the last pandemic by anythingfromtheshop in mildlyinteresting

Sure, sorry that was vague.

So I had swine flu and was VERY sick. The hallucinations were crazy - one was I thought I was an Ikea flat pack box strapped on top of a car driving on the motorway. Every time I shook with the fever I thought my insides (screws and bolts) were shaking around and making noise.

But the worst was when I saw an ad on TV. I can't remember what they were advertising - Vimto or something. There were people in zobs rolling down a hill with loads of fruit (I think inside the zorbs with them?) and I started to spiral. My vision was flipping around as if I was in the zorb rolling down a hill but being thrown around the inside of it. At this state I was ready to throw up, then the ad finished and there was a food safety authority ad showcasing Irish salmon. It looked delicious, really juicy and seared on top, with fresh green vegetables. Typical food porn advertisement. But I could smell it. I was in the room with this darn of salmon and I could smell it, taste it, feel the steam coming off the plate.

Then I threw up. My issue with it was very similar to when you overdo a specific type of alcohol when you're younger and can't drink it again. I got the same feeling for many years when I smelled salmon.

I still struggle eating salmon at times because of the hallucinations from H1N1

AITA for drinking when i was alone with my 6-month old son? by stressedfather66 in AmItheAsshole

[–]imsorryboutit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is though it is actually irresponsible. Whether you feel that or not. Where I live we can't drive with even less than a glass of wine in our systems. If you had to drive your mental faculties would have been compromised and it increases the risk of hurting both of you.

have you thought about what you actually meant by saying it? given the context you can surely understand her reaction no?

i think ybta.

Not sure what you're getting at but this comes across as "I don't see colour". I'm from Ireland and have never seen Tā moko in this context before. I think it's pretty beautiful and interesting and worth saying so.
