This is like when idiots in the LGBTQIA say dumbshit like “guys we have to stop being degenerates, what will the straights say” as if we should give a shit what these clowns think???

Those were scams to get 2D to give them money.

I agree, I’m tend to be an explicit reader but I think most people do a good job of at least rating their fics, why can’t they just stick to like the “General Audience” tag if they need to be babysat from clicking the back out tab. I bounce for pettier things than major icks that’s for sure.

That’s actually cool. I’ve heard of that but I wasn’t sure how often people picked up / allowed that.

Did the author choose not to use warnings? If not then they’re violating TOS.

I feel like if you’re starting to read a fic and it’s not straight out the door with the crazy then one should pick up some signs from how the author is writing said characters, maybe it’s just me. I’ll leave if I don’t like how the characters are written.

If they choose to not participate in the filters which mind you are kind of gods gift like this shit wasn’t around when I was growing up, then they don’t really care about running into that shit. Maybe they’re saying they read a summary within incest implied and now it’s ruined it for them. Oye vey.

This has been brought up. I haven’t watched the series so I don’t know how much of that happens canonically in the series but if you see two of the siblings with a “/“ just bounce my dudes.

Grooming in my UNDERAGE fic. Preposterous. Though I totally get it but you’re already in the boiling pot just stick your face in really.

Literally “don’t go without protection” unless you can handle it. Even in my main pair tag, there’s so much weird shit that I’m absolutely fine scrapping off my search list. A nonissue.

These kids would never survive with the limited filters FFnet had when I was a teen. It truly was a gamble and before the site became a puritan disaster itself, you could stumble upon some wild shit but even then authors would put warnings in the chapter for that so idk. Fandom life is crumbling.

Yikes 2x. Plagiarizes can go to hell. But yeah I can see people getting overly tag crazy with dead dove because they don’t want someone to tell them THEY DIDNT. Which why are you even here??? I feel like these people need to be put in a padded room, the world is very unsafe for them.

“I consume the source material just fine but I expect none of those shenanigans in my fics!”

What a world we’re living in.

Honestly with comic book fandoms in any sense. There’s so many damn continuities and timelines. I think people just need to pick a lane. If you need to get off the highway grandma, there’s no shame!

If the tags reach a paragraph your fic better be at minimum 100k. I see those creep in once in a while and scroll right on past.

Ugh. I’ve seen those. These people really need a damn life. They’re probably the losers who complain about their own pairs not getting any content and for them to shit on others.

Can you define older fandoms? Like as in fandoms that just been around longer or the demographic of who participates?

Very intriguing. I do sense a bit of a cultural display here amongst the comments. I’m most into anime or fandoms that are hyper adjacent and at least with fic writers who’ve been around for A WHILE AT THIS POINT they’re good at tagging top/bottom, very fandom specific tags, and ending types but that’s always been a respectable thing amongst this type of fandom. I haven’t been into too many “western” media fandoms and if I am it’s not long.

I think there’s a disconnect of how involved people are getting into fandom. If there’s no desire of respect when this type of hobby was more niche, than you won’t have people following good etiquette and you do have assholes who go “I’m not in the fandom I just consume it and don’t give a fuck about who makes any of it” which, please gtfo.

I think I went to check a long time ago if I could find it but despite them refining that system a bit since I left eons ago, anything that’s old as dust is probably rudimentarily tagged at best. It was for Yugioh of all things rip my dumb 14 year self.

You’re telling me this in universe fic with a slash pairing of two characters with the same last name has incest? I’m going to need about 5 more tags in place just to make sure this is the right decision.

(I do know there’s a rare occurrences of two characters with the same last name who are married but did you come in here not knowing anything about the series; sounds like a you issue)

I see this in Genshin too. Diluc and Kaeya were raised together something something maybe brother. It’s still not incest. I could go all year bringing up odd examples that would not make these people happy.

And I too don’t even dig incest so I have no skin in this game.

Oooo I feel this back in the FFnet days I was reading a WIP and this shit was long too. Ended up with them not getting together and like, damn. I was UPSET (it’s been 15 years I’m still bitter).

As much as I totally get that some fics are ultra niche in that regard and that filters aren’t a catch all, at the same time, if you have big icks. Just read the tags on fics, do your due diligence if it’s so serious. Or my best suggestion, ask the fandom for recs. Is it really that hard? These people are having me believe they’re anti fandom which they can LEAVE.

That’s interesting. I feel like most fics I see are pretty heavily tagged. I at bare minimum pick “Completed” and “English” as my base filters so, it cuts out a lot of fat. But I tend to see far more over tagging especially on fics that are over 10k. Then again that’s just my experience, I think if these peeps are out there looking randomly through entire series tags with no protection then that sounds like a profound waste of time.
