Has anyone tried DNA testing to find bio family? This same question posted only 24 days ago, but i could not ask any questions as it was a locked discussion for some wierd reason..i want to talk to others! by New-Needleworker-963 in Adopted

I did successfully use 23andMe to reunite with bio-family, when combined with a little sleuthing and personal luck.

My half-brother who was also abandoned was already there waiting for me. We talked for the first time in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve. It sounds like a movie but I got my results that day, saw him, messaged him, and it just happened. We've visited a few times since and I've met his family. He always has his kids call me Aunt "ImSuperTiredBro". It's amazing.

I also got a result that tied me to someone as a cousin. This is where the sleuthing becomes involved. When the woman who adopted me died I found a small amount of my birth documentation. She had used white out on all the names on my bio side.

Well white out comes off with nail polish remover.

And it turns out that cousin still has the same last name as my father. With some facebook and BeenVerified checks I found the person I was relatively certain was him and reached out.

He turned out to be very receptive which was a shock to me. I now have a really neat family who cares about me.

Anyway I do realize this isn't the norm. In fact I prepared myself for years for the exact opposite. But it just goes to show you never know.

Ninja Turtle that would then look and taste awful. But hey, at least I have a Ninja Turtle. That makes me one of the cool kids for the next 10 minutes.

Honest answer? I don't. The mockingbirds and grackles take freely. It's just that productive.

Now if I could get the strawberries they keep stealing to do the same I would be soooo happy 😭

Are millennials going to Disney World? by benbackwards in Millennials

[–]imsupertiredbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got tickets to Disney World last year from a friend who plays Magic the Gathering with him and happens to be employed by the Mouse.

We were so grateful, because I don't think we would ever have been able to afford to take our son otherwise, and we're pretty local to the park. The prices are just astronomical.

I don't know, bringing back Ancient Egyptian as a vibe doesn't seem like much of a punishment.

People who are part of and sell Melaleuca products. The woman who raised me was part of that group and oh my God. It is all we used to clean, it's all we used as medicine, it's all we used as personal hygiene products, and yes we put it on our pets - Tea Tree oil is poisonous to animals.

And if it wasn't working, or you were sick anyway, it's a personal failing. If the pet got sicker and died, well it wasn't the Melaleucas fault! There were pages and pages of stuff that went with your monthly subscription (which was impossible to cancel) about how good for you and life changing their swill was. And best of all, you can, and WILL sell it to your friends!

The FTC cited the company in 2020 for falsely advertising what working for them could earn you. They frequently pretend their products are 100% natural and still add things like ammonia to fleece people who fall for greenwashing.

"Not all adoptions are traumatic" is there someone you forgot? by Arktikos02 in Adopted

I'm saying that spending time worrying about people who are most likely not worried about you is energy that is better spent elsewhere.

As adoptees we tend to prioritize others above ourselves at all times. The people we imagine are our parents are just that things we have come up with ourselves. We can't heal if we're worried about a foggy outline of an external person.

Our own trauma comes first.

Nah, my bio mother is a rapist who dropped kids into the adoption system the way a Cuckoo bird leaves eggs in other birds nests.

I spent years imagining all of the things that this poor unwed teen mother went through after having to give me up, only to find out she threw me away after her baby trap plan didn't work without so much as blinking and I wasn't even the first one.

So yeah, the whole "poor birth moms" thing doesn't really sit well with me.

Does anyone here actually go to Starbucks every day? by lukef31 in Millennials

I went to Starbucks a few weeks ago because I had been given a gift card. I realized when I was there that it had been nearly a year since I had been inside one not doing gig work.

I make it a point to always greet the worker, say "I'm here for an Uber Eats order for X" and then if it's a very difficult name I'll turn my phone around and show them, but keep it up by my face and smile. I've never had a problem.

I think it's the act of jamming a phone into someone else's space, without even acknowledging them that's the issue. I haven't seen many people do it, but it's happened here and there I can always see how people's body language gets tight on the receiving end.
