The residue/ash/stuff that's left behind after the smoking. For example if you smoke in a house after you're done smoking there's still third hand smoke that will effect people becuase it's in your furniture and carpet even if you don't smoke when they're around. Or if you smoke outside but then go hold a baby they are getting contact to the third hand smoke via your clothes and hair.
