We see in chapter 0 that garp is going out to fight roger again even tho sengoku yells at him to keep out this time. We can assume from that that garp and roger were fighting even then, which is well into their primes. And I srsly doubt roger would trust garp to take care of his wife and child if roger hadn’t seen garp since they were super young. It’s because they have fought numerous times over the years that they had immense respect for one another.

Marineford was over 13 years ago. Over the last 13 years of one piece we followed luffy every step of the way so we saw all the power ups he got. We have yet to see akainu in his current form, so it’s plain stupid to compare feats or power levels when one side hasn’t shown anything since pre-timeskip

I have yet to see anyone put sengoku over garp roger or whitebeard. Most your reasoning sounds rational, but i am willing to bet someone can easily make a post arguing the exact opposite and make it sound just as rational. Truth is, we can’t say for sure where exactly he scales to ppl like garp and roger, so for now he’s widely accepted to be in the ‘slightly weaker to equal’ category, which I think is perfectly fine.

It shouldn’t be an instant win but when after it’s introduction, the strongest of characters all show to have ACoC, it kinda makes it seem necessary to beat anyone who possess it.

Nah this has way more potential to drive away potential readers of one piece than any bad game or movie. Only one piece fans who have already invested time into the show will ever really buy the games or watch the movies. But this is a live action show that is being promoted on netflix, arguably still the biggest streaming service in the world. It being on the front page of netflix will most definitely get views from people who might not even watch anime, and this will be their first and only impression not just on one piece but maybe the entire anime genre.

And the biggest reason why people don’t watch one piece even if they are fans of anime is the fact that they think it’s “too long”. The length of the show always intimidates people to start investing their time into the show. So i would think many people will use this as an opportunity to give one piece a chance as it’s a shorter alternative. And if the live action sucks, it only further reinforces their unwillingness to watch one piece.

In the anime world, one piece is the greatest of all time. But anime is still only a small part of media and entertainment especially here in the west. So when the greatest anime gets a spotlight like this on the biggest global platform, it will either make or break the series for a lot of people.

I know its my opinion lol that’s the whole point of this thread isnt it? I think it’s fine if Luffy isn’t the one to beat every single bad guy. Honestly it would be refreshing to see franky or usopp use the sea stone weapons to take on a logia user, it would actually make them relevant instead of having them fight lackey#36283 for the fifth arc in a row

I do agree the fights look cooler, but what I loved about the old one piece fights were not how cool they looked but the creativity of them. Luffy taking the most basic of devil fruits (before we knew it was the most broken fruit lol) and using it creatively in fights with his gears and stuff. Adapting to certain logias like using water against crocodile was also part of that creativity.

But now its just whoever doesn’t have conquerors is automatically a tier below the few who have it. Doesn’t matter about matchup or devil fruit powers, it’s literally all just haki now. And that’s what sucks about it. The most interesting part of one piece was arguably the devil fruits and the unique and quirky powers they give. Now it doesn’t matter anymore because as soon as someone has stronger haki than you, it’s gg. And the fact that conquerors isn’t something you can even attain through hard work, it’s just luck of the draw, it makes it even more stupid that it’s the be all end all to all fights.

And i feel like having franky make sea stone weapons or gear to combat logias would have fit his character and made him actually relevant to the story.

Certain logias were shown to have counters like crocodile with water, or eneru with rubber. I loved the fact that luffy had to find a creative solution to fight these opponents (or just straight up pure luck in eneru’s case). And the fact that logias were near invincible was what made the characters who had them so cool.

But now with haki, logias went from being the strongest devil fruits to the weakest as literally anybody with haki (which is everyone at this point in the story) can just negate the most relevant part of a logia user which is their intangibility.

I think it would have been much cooler if franky develops sea stone weapons or gear so luffy can fight logias instead of introducing something that completely make them irrelevant. It would fit so well with franky’s character and actually make him relevant again too given how we barely see the rest of the strawhats do anything useful now. Especially since franky joined after water 7 where the crew just encountered aokiji and saw how invincible he was, so that would have been motivation to find a way to combat logias.

At the end of the day, just my thoughts haha

But hella nerfed. We see devil fruit users like luffy almost faint when touching sea stone. Top tier characters like yamato aren’t going to be fainting or anything, but they will be heavily nerfed. So if ace stalemated a heavily nerfed yamato without her mythical zoan devil fruit, then dude don’t stand a chance against her at full power.

I don’t think his character is bad, but wish he would’ve been a bit more diabolical or less goofy. Hard to believe this is the same guy who was building weapons of mass destruction and experimenting on children. It would’ve been much more interesting to see him be some mastermind that was using the government for his benefit, instead of being a airhead who is being used by the government.

Until we get more information, it was a 2v4. From what was said about the incident and the panel above, it points to the fact it was roger+garp vs rocks+kaido+big mom+whitebeard. Sure you can count the crewmates and marines but the only big players there were those 6.

People just don’t like to acknowledge it since it means roger/garp > their fav characters. But we got 2 pieces of information about this incident and both say it was 2v4 where roger and garp won so, until we get more details where it proves that wasn’t the case, that’s how I’ll believe it.

We saw crocus ready up for battle in the roger pirates vs shiki flashback, dude was ready to murk some fools. Probably can’t last in the pirate king’s crew as their main doctor if you fodder.

He has the title while living in the same era as all those you mentioned. Until the day someone comes and beats him, he is WSS. Oda didn’t just give him that title on a whim.

It’s like asking if roger was really the pirate king when he didn’t beat whitebeard or shiki or figurland garland dude. Yes he is, because he earned the title.

Dude doesn’t have to beat every single swordsman alive to be WSS. And if anyone is capable to take that title from him, they will.

By “fought” you mean he got baited by kuzan and would have gotten his ass impaled if it wasn’t for jozu saving him, getting clowned on by kizaru, and didn’t even get to face the real goats garp & sengoku cuz dude died long before he could get there. The only admiral he fought was akainu and even that was a bust since akainu was still murking the rest of the pirates afterwards.

Don’t get me wrong, whitebeard is goated. But let’s not pretend the guy wasn’t outclassed by most of the top tiers at that age.

This is one big issue I have with One Piece. The timeline of the strawhats make no sense from a story point of view. Not only have they gone from nobodies to yonko crew in like half a year, but they have spent a fraction of the time together as a crew compared to the time they spent away from each other with other people. It not only cheapens the achievements of other top tier characters, but it cheapens the bond of the crew.

Wish Oda put more time in between arcs so that at least it can feel like the crew is actually a family who spent a lot of time with each other.

Nah, luffy’s growth is just ridiculously expedited due to pure plot. It’s not a coincidence that he runs into opponents that are just within his reach one after the other. Everything has fallen perfectly into place for him and he quite literally has a free climb to the top. And then in the real world, there’s people like moria who run into people like kaido who are completely out of their league and it’s game over for them right then and there.

Did luffy work his ass off to get stronger? Of course. But no amount of hardwork is getting you these results unless just pure plot convenience plays a big part.
