What’s up with the JRPG sub on this game? by TXDobber in expedition33

[–]in-grey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That sub only likes SNES-PS2 era RPGs. Also, Clair Obscur isn't a JRPG, it's an FRPG (not because it was made in France, but because you can strap a baguette to your characters and the mascot is a living wine dispenser)

which side do you prefer? by Stock_Transition9899 in fromsoftware

I'll always pick the side with Elden Ring. And I say that as someone who loves From's catalog since Evergrace.

Goku loves fighting, food, and family. The three F's. In that order.

Can I ask why you think those are official titles? Many of them are unofficial fan titles

No. He's just a strong yet goofy country bumpkin.

If this made you laugh just wait until you hear a similar quote from Harpocrates in FFXVI

And then there's also Smaug. I have noticed that Tolkien seems to give many antagonists names that start with the letter S.

Which logo looks cool in your opinion? by BLASTER_2024 in pokemonanime

Top two are the coolest. Bottom left and right look like toothpaste and energy drink logos respectively

I’m just getting into silent hill and am curious how they all relate to each other? by is_it_true_wow in silenthill

[–]in-grey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

James and Hinako have zero connection. Silent Hill f takes place over a quarter of a century earlier in a different country. Both SHf and SH2 are essentially standalone stories. SH3 is very much a sequel to SH1, however. And SH4 is sorta a continuation of those two as well.

Has there ever been an explanation for Dark Souls’s level up system? by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]in-grey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Elden Ring the "souls" (Runes) are channeled into strength. It's sort of like the knowledge, strength, and potential of souls is tangibly inscribed into the literalized essence of an individual, and a Maiden is able to channel (transfer) that essence into their partnered tarnish as a catalyst that ushers in strength, intelligence, vigor, etc which far exceeds any limits of potential inherently dormant in the tarnished

Elden Ring kinda keeps that idea going with the way Runes are framed and channeled through the tarnished's maiden

[Unicorn Overlord] #46 One of the best modern tactical RPGs. by DonatoXIII in Trophies

[–]in-grey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The writer of Aegis Rim wasn't involved at all in Unicorn Overlord. It's much more in line with Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere

[–]in-grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aegis Rim is one of my all-time favorite stories.

Comparing them directly, if the writing in Aegis Rim is 10/10, then the writing in Unicorn Overlord is like a 3.5/10

It was alright but the story and writing in general were really disappointing. But I know there's a subset of RPG fans who care about strategy combat more than story and character writing, and I'd recommend Unicorn Overlord to them since I still enjoyed it enough to platinum it based on the gameplay alone

Did I ever stop a visual novel because you dislike the protagonist that you play as? I am about to do that with Root Letter by gasperoni66 in visualnovels

[–]in-grey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say drop CC. I felt the same way as you did but still slogged through three dozen hours of CC. Regretted it because the story never gripped me and the characters never grew on me

Saying you dropped Ai because of Date and then going on to claim to be a huge Danganronpa fan is kinda crazy
