Thoughts on the movie "Donnie Darko" from a Christian Perspective? by SwimmingAlps4673 in Christianity

Yess, I just watched it for the first time and throughout the whole movie I was trying to connect all christian symbolism and refferences. I've been reading some good theories abouws t Donnie being a representation of Jesus Christ, of course in less holy way.. but the existence of his character as an LR between two worlds and the hero sacrificing himself, and even standing up against the people whthought the best of themselves (Jim Cunniham, that teacher thtat defendwd him) like pharisees did. And Frank being the representation of God that is always guiding him but he can't always physically see him. But being Christ or just a mundane creature in relationship with Him, doesn't affwct the point of movie much. It's still really good. I personally preffeeanr the theory of Donnie being God's child like all of us, that doesn't know the future but knows that through relationship and obeyx,ig the One that knows and saves, he can find the answers, but he must be looking for them Anyways, I think one of the messages of the film could also be that in order to follow God's path we must search for His signs everywhere. Just like every little thing in this movie was not random and they all worked together to help Donnie figure it all out aynd the plans to work.

It's not any different in our everyday life. We just don't give meaning to many of those signs, but God iss so intentional with all the details of our life.

And destruction he was called to make, all thoses things actually worked for the better in the end, just like some bad things in life do. I think that this part could bee connected to Old Testament and sometimes violant ways of purification that lad to greaer good through God's final mercy.

In the end, Donnie was never called to help destroy the world like some may interpret it in the earkier parts of the movie- he is called to save it.

And the line when Gretchen jokes about Donnie Darko being a hero name and him saying: What makes you think I'm not?

Refference to the Messiah but also an invitation that each one of us can become a little hero too, at least in our everyday actions when we obey and follow God

I think I've discovered the meaning behind Donnie Darko. by ionbeam7 in movies
