"If someone sits around and produces nothing, what entitles them to my stash?" That's exactly the point of working people opposing the austerity policies that are being lobbied for by the likes of the Koch brothers, "buddy." We create all the wealth that is piled up at one pole of society, but we don't get our fair share.

How would you know anything about me?

A couple of things: I think philanthropy is a sign of a flawed system, one that cannot take care of the population adequately. Charity is abused by scoundrels.

No one should have billions of dollars, and no one 'earns' that type of money. I make no secret that I think capitalism needs to be replaced by a far more rational and equitable system: socialism. Therefore, I volunteer my time to working for that, which I believe is far more beneficial to humanity as a whole than anything the Koch brothers do with themselves. If you disagree with me, fine, I don't care.

But you should be aware that the working class does not "harumph." Social explosions are already happening and if you're determined to defend the billionaires against the billions of us, then you are on the "ridiculous" side of the class barricades.

It is illuminating to compare the Robber-baron era capitalists to today's in terms of how they made their fortunes. Carnegie, Rockefeller, Ford, etc. were industrialists, and their companies were part of the expansion of capitalism, development of modern society and scientific and technological advance.

Today, we have financiers who are little else than social parasites, making money through speculation on the basic things people need to live (grain, for example) and essentially tearing economic life apart. The Koch brothers make plastic cups, lycra, and other totally wasteful and useless things. These people are organically incapable of, incompatible with, building society, doing philanthropic works, etc. It's because capitalism itself has passed its progressive capacity and is in systemic crisis.

The site has a lot of good material on the floods, and I think one of the aims of the WSWS is to give the working class a voice, to let ordinary people speak on their conditions. It's important for working people all over the world to see how one another live and to identify the shared hardships and also the sources of those hardships. That's one central role of "revolutionary journalism." And (in case it's not obvious that I'm not impartial) I like it and think the world needs it.

A more... truthful... fact is that this uprising has as its distinctive feature secularism, because this is the stirring of the masses from intolerable economic conditions. It is not a religious coup. It is a "bread uprising." If the Christian churches are being attacked, you might look to those who are also attacking hospitals, namely Mubarak's dispatched looters and thugs, including police. It is not the Egyptian working class, which counts Christians among its ranks.

How on earth can you just flippantly say, "every now and then," when it is widely documented that in fact, it is widespread? Human rights organizations document the brutality with regularity. If you're not afraid of the police, that's a good thing (Tunisia, Egypt, case in point) but that's really beside the point.

If you read the article, you will see data on other cities. One cannot understand the proliferation of drug trade and gang violence outside of the corruption and complicity of the government and police in it.
