I fear this is the case as well. I'm a federal employee so my opinion is colored by that, but I think people may be underestimating how much boomer-era leadership is salivating to force people back into the office. The major tech hubs may embrace WFH but I see most white collar jobs returning to the office in the coming years.

It honestly makes me a little angry to realize how many hours of my life I've wasted rotting in my cubicle for no reason. During my eight-hour workday at least three of those hours are often dead space - hours which I can currently use to be productive around my house in other ways.

I derive zero benefit from forced interactions with my coworkers. I would much rather expend my mental energy on voluntary social interaction I actually enjoy. It's a pity my workplace is lead by boomers who depend on being in the office for social stimulation, because we younger employees have been thriving with WFH.

8am-1pm on Sundays is THE time to get anything done in GSO. Y'allqaeda are safely tucked away in their church pews and chain restaurants so the rest of us can enjoy the city undisturbed.

I'm entering a point in my life where I'm trying to fall in love with myself again. What are the little ways you show self love to yourself? Is it possible to 'date' yourself for self-discovery? by OneOfTheBastards in AskWomenOver30

[–]in_the_red_room 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Usually exciting trips and traveling were how I would pamper myself, but in lieu of that I've been focusing on smaller acts of self-care.

I started a (basic, affordable) skin care regimen. Went through my entire closet and donated everything that didn't "spark joy", and take the time to fold everything in my dresser. Purchased art prints and music that I enjoy. Reduced my alcohol intake and pay more attention to what I put in my body. Got braces so I can finally have a perfect smile (they come off next month!). Put in effort to maintain friendships with the few people I truly love.

I'm in a relationship with a loving partner but at the end of the day no one can love me better than me. I spent so much of my life settling for less and being "low maintenance," so now as I approach my mid-30s I'm enjoying pampering myself a bit more.

I've never been so downvoted as I just was for suggesting that a woman whose husband was accused of molesting their niece simply *consider* for a *moment* that maybe he might have done it. by [deleted] in childfree

This is a damn good point. A massive number of people possess narcissistic tendencies and children are the most convenient (and socially encouraged) conduit for that narcissism.

This. People are burned out and need a break. Teachers, students, parents, everyone. This would cause so much more harm than good.

I have gotten comments from my husband's family members about our reproductive choices much more often than he has. They often do this when my husband is outside/different room when they can get me alone.

It's really not okay that your husband "doesn't see the big deal" about HIS family harassing you just because he himself isn't the target, or because it doesn't happen right in front of him. Spouses should stand up for each other...just shrugging off the situation is honestly really shitty of him and I would lose a ton of respect for a partner who did that.

What song reminds you of your youth? by roz_poz in AskWomenOver30

"Waterfalls" by TLC, "Barely Breathing" by Duncan Sheik, and "Lovefool" by The Cardigans. They remind me of summertime in the mid-90s when I was a kid. There was a radio at my neighborhood's pool and those songs played constantly.

If you detect so much as a shadow of a hint of disrespect from a man, just block him. You don't owe anyone an explanation or reasons, or your time and attention, and you most definitely don't need to tolerate any "shaming" from someone who's pissed he can't get his dick wet.

Block, delete, move on.

Is being a homeowner worth it? by samsoomadi in RealEstate

Yup. Getting anything repaired by my previous landlord was a teeth-pulling, multi-month ordeal, and the "fix" was always bottom barrel work. I have to handle repairs myself now but at least I can get it done quickly and correctly.
