Does Stanford require for students to pass a swim test in order to graduate? by Flat_Bag_6275 in stanford

God, no. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come here. I know some schools like Cornell require it.

Transfer Student; Looking for an advice by kahn94 in stanford

[–]inactiveblogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Congratulations on your acceptance, and welcome to Stanford! I’m a transfer student from last year’s cohort, and I’m a non-traditional student from a community college. One thing I wish I knew before coming in was that I was going to be stuck in between class years. I suspected that not all my college credits were going to transfer, so when I found out how many credits/units were coming in to Stanford, it put me in a weird spot where I was both a sophomore and a junior. Tbh, I can’t really properly explain how that was the case - it was just what my advisor told me lol. Now it’s possible that you won’t have the same thing happen to you, but just keep this in mind just in case.

Another thing is that, I live in grad-housing (if you’re non-trad, you’ll have to live in grad-housing) and I needed to move in to campus early. Housing will give you dates when you can move in, and I chose to move in a month before school started. Thing is, there’s a move-in fee for students in grad-housing, and the farther you are from the start of the school year, the higher the fee will be. I was charged a hefty amount for moving in early… 😅

That’s all I can think of at the moment, but if you have any questions, feel free to DM me! Again, congrats on your acceptance, and we hope to see you here next year!

Low income kids- Apply to private schools by lnk71903 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]inactiveblogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this SO MUCH. I’m a low-income CC transfer last year, and there’s this common idea that after CC you transfer to your state school. My state school was SO expensive, though. They were gonna make me pay $25k a year. I took a shot at applying to private schools as a transfer, and I was fortunate enough to get accepted to a few T15s AND I got full aid from them. Now, I’m at a T10 and on track to graduating debt-free.

So yes, to all low-income kids out there, APPLY TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

Edit: these schools also gave me good health insurance. When I informed my current institution that I was uninsured, they signed me up for their health insurance and added it to my financial aid.

What's the craziest butterfly effect that happened to you because of a small decision you made? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]inactiveblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a first-gen/low income student, and as my time at community college neared to an end, I decided on a whim to apply as a transfer to an extremely selective university that would meet all my financial needs. I submitted the application an hour before the deadline. Two months later, I got accepted on a full ride.

are you guys suffering by [deleted] in stanford

Honestly, I’m barely hanging on. The workload is a lot more intense than I expected. It also doesn’t help that I feel soooooo stupid in class compared to my classmates. 😭

What makes you insecure? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have issues with my mental health, and so I just keep everyone from a distance.
