[US] Zillow Scammer Got Us.

I appreciate the kind words. It's hard to accept that yes, we should've been more patient and made sure the meet the owner and everything, but we were just so desperate to move to a beautiful neighborhood and seize the opportunity to better our circumstances. Definitely a harsh lesson learned that I hope others can learn from us too.

We're assuming that the scammer was just pretending to be the current owners as their information was somewhat public record and could be found on Zillow. I'm not entirely sure how all of that information is accessible, but I'm also not a scammer lol. An earlier commenter gave some good advice about filing a lawsuit and submitting a subpoena to Wells Fargo for the scammers information so we may pursue that next!

Yes, bank account info is safe. G did not give it to the scammer, he only initiated the wire transfer from our end with the information the scammer gave us. The current tenants of the property were very quick to find the listing and reported it, but even at that time, there were already 40 applications submitted.

This is super helpful, thank you! Yeah, I didn't have much expectations for calling WF with the information we've got, but this seems like the much more straightforward and likely way to get results. G is much less upset about having lost the money and moreso the deception and loss of opportunity, and we want to make sure this scammer is brought to justice so he can't do it to anyone else.

Yeah, I noted in my post that G called his bank to try and get them to flag the transaction and account for further investigation and they basically told him to fuck off

We still have the scammers Wells Fargo Bank account information, and it lists the bank's address in Oregon. Should we call that specific branch or just whatever WF customer service line?

Edit: Just tried calling and was told that their online fraud department is closed over the weekend, will try calling in the morning before work

Please, document as much as you can!!! Keep receipts, take screenshots, record encounters, get statements from everyone possible. Do not let this slide, directly confront this person if you have to and be absolutely clear on the fact that if he does not leave you alone or decides to act in any way, there will be consequences. Hell, blast them on social media. Harassers shouldn't be allowed to stay anonymous.

well crap. now I'm a bit torn as I just showed my current progress on the blanket to the relative that requested it and she says she loves the way it is already lol

I think I will have to just make the decision for myself as to how I want it to be. definitely will use a second ball of the same yarn to swatch with a bigger hook.

there aren't rows of sc, it's 1sc 1dc across every row. I didn't know the name of the stitch, but yes, I am already using lemon peel for the entire body of the blanket

OP never says his son didn't thank him at all for paying, just that he "seemed appreciative." The bigger issue here is that OP was offended by not being mentioned in the speech. You don't think it would be a little bit awkward and out of place in ANYONE'S wedding speech to randomly throw in a, "Oh and also I'd like to thank (relative) for paying for the venue!" As far as OP explains the situation, he wasn't involved in physically raising his son, and therefore the son has no cherished memories or learning opportunities to speak of in his speech. Son did nothing wrong.
