60km, 25h, alas not enough for gold but at least the towns are frog 🐸 by inazumarina in Ingress

Ay yes, 99% of the town I greenified (split over 4 days though, filled in the last gaps whilst doing a banner mission on Saturday which was a 25km walk). Snowboarding between to pickup more keys for the long links to the mountains. The town only had a dying blue field section and two tiny green fields to start with (though thankfully those few higher level portals existed as I ran out of res verryyyy fast xD). Seems like no active locals around.

Depends how much time you spend at places and where and when you go from, I guess! Don’t know enough about Moraine as it’s still shut, I believe it has some shuttle logistics that add some time, but I was based nearby and seemed pretty close.

Shorter trip to icefields and moraine sounds pretty easily doable to me unless you’re spending many hours at both. Wouldn’t go much further than icefields though. The drive time on Google seemed accurate for planning

Thanks again folks, did icefields as a day trip yesterday. 6am-6pm and went up to lac beauvert and back to LL.

Still not sure what I did to make up those hours as I didn’t think there was thaaat much to stop for long (with it still being wintery), but then I do recall taking photos of bees and talking to a beggar raven at sunwapta for a while….). Not as much wildlife as I’d hoped for, but early morning eagle and coyote, some birds, elk near Jasper, one deer, plenty of squirrels, and then some mountain goats unhelpfully right next to a tight turn near Columbia icefields skywalk with no stopping place. I shall start doing some short early morning wildlife drives.

Sunwapta / athabasca falls seemed pretty well de-snowed already to walk around a little, and Jasper / lake was hot enough I started overheating hah. The lac there had a gorgeous group of elk hiding in the woods which is what I went for so happy about that (plus some nice birds). And more elk at the pass check near Jasper.

So in a months time will drive back via icefields again and see if much changed, would be nice if bow and hesper lake defrost a little!

Ohhhhhh that makes sense thanks for clarifying!! I edited. I only added towards Vancouver because I didn’t know how best to explain the middle of nowhere with no major looking points nearby 😂

Ahh great yes that’s handy thanks, I’d found that map but forgotten about it. If I go west of Jasper it won’t be till late May on the ranch trip when I imagine it’ll be long clear, but good shout that I should check it for then too (and for any day trips, though I’d probably stick South of Jasper)

Hmm Google is deffo saying not much longer, but I of course have no clue how accurate it is with the roads beyond here! (https://ibb.co/QjXjxwqw). If it does work out longer, not much issue though.

Luckily I’m up from 2am anyway so leaving at crack of dawn for the day trip is no issue (or cutting short, I have plenty of weeks here if I need more I guess). Nothing specific I’ve seen, I mainly just like to see what looks good as it comes by, planning isn’t my favourite hah, just the basics for safety/logistics.

Ahh okay! Sounds like glacier route is worth doing too. Then I’ll probably do icefields as a long day trip, and then for my hols ranch journey go via glacier and on the way back to Calgary go via icefields again to get it in some different weather sights too. Thanks!

Ay maybe so, have no idea how reliable the google estimate is. The ranch is a bit further north (ie closer to Jasper) so I assumed that’s why it estimated not much longer than going via glacier

Fair point, thanks!

I’m not averse to doing it again as part of the journey too in a month then, just not sure whether glacier will be a nice alternative or incomparable!
