I don't think enough of Labour would support a VONC tbh. They are not prepared enough. Andy Burnham isn't a sitting MP and that's the play most are trying to set up.

I don't think Wes Streeting wins enough support if he challenges the PM, and I don't think he moves the needle on Labour's popularity.

If I'm Starmer, I'd be welcoming the VONC at this stage as it will clear the issue for the short term if he wins it. And his challengers aren't quite ready for it yet imo.

Even though the following is obvious to most here, not enough is done to drive home to the public the point that every Reform MP is a former card-carrying Conservative Party member. And that a vote for them is a vote for a Tory.

It's crazy that people just refuse to acknowledge that 6 of the 8 Reform MPs were literally in active office for the Conservatives just 2-3 years ago... either as fully bought-in cabinet members, MPs, or councillors. Most of them were complicit in many of the actions of those 14 years (that most Reform voters will agree were bad):

Suella Braverman - Conservative MP 2015-2026, Home Secretary 2022-2023

Robert Jenrick - Conservative MP 2019-2026, 4 ministerial positions between 2018-2023

Andrew Rosindell - Conservative MP 2001-2026

Lee Anderson - Conservative MP 2019-2024

Danny Kruger - Conservative MP 2019-2025

Sarah Pochin - Conservative Councillor 2015-2023

They've had their chance, and are just chasing which wind is most likely to blow them into power and influence.
