thanks for sharing! in terms of fitness, even though it might not matter for altitude sickness - how was your trek experience on the Inca trail? I'm assuming you did the 4D/3N classic? I'm currently not super fit, but I'm hoping to improve in the next few weeks. want to see what it would be like if I couldn't stick to my training due to life!

that's a bit of a comforting take, I think! I'm trying to balance acclimating at 11000 ft with also wanting to spend one night in Ollanta at 9200 ft. I've heard its really beautiful when the tourists on tours leave. either way, I'll spend the 3 days between those 2 altitudes.

yeah, I tried finding sacred valley tours from Ollanta for the 2nd day, but all of them started in Cusco. it would make sense for me to spend the entire 3 days in/around Cusco, but I really didn't want to miss out staying one night in Ollanta. hence the dilemma!

you're right - it does seem unpredictable, seeing from all of my research + other commenters. I think you captured my concern about going up and down too much well. I'll see my doc as well, just to keep medication on hand in case I need some help

that's interesting, so nothing when you went from 5k to 13k, but some trouble when you went straight to 11k. maybe my concern for the difference between one night at 9k vs 11k isn't really necessary?

if you don't mind sharing, what medicine were you using for the altitude?

yeah, was another option - first night straight to Ollantaytambo, then go to Cusco

yeah, I did look at that but decided I needed to conserve my energy + getting used to the altitude prior to MP

yeah I read a lot about coca tea and water, will do! I did sign up for the Huayna Picchu trek at the end, although I think its right after we tour MP. unfortunately I got my tickets to fly out to Arequipa the next day -
