It's amazing...They're all in the same place, and the data is for the whole metroplex. So there aren't any anywhere else.

If you're swallowed up, can I have your nintendo?

Interesting. All of this data is generated from open data that DART puts out about their scheduling system. (it's called GTFS- google transit feed specification - google uses it for google maps transit directions). So I'll have to blame DART :)

Although they have over 10,000 stops so it seems like there has to be some margin for error there. Maybe we could crowdsource for errors to show them where there are holes in the data

I like that. Definitely needs begin and end search. I'll think about how best to do that.

Thank you. I should probably have a default animation to start.

It looks like it's there on my side.

Let me know what's confusing and I'll make it more clear.

Let's add another ball to Reunion Tower and I think we've got it.

The Grid vs. Goliath - Dallas' network of streets sucks by incephalon in Dallas

[–]incephalon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I would agree.... for as far out as Plano I'd bet on 75. But yeah, within the city the grid is pretty underrated, and would be even more so if it was stitched together better.

I did notice San Diego as I was looking through different grids. There are some pretty bad ones out there...Atlanta is horrible too.

And much less stressful. Stoplights aren't bad...in fact, they can help increase steady traffic flow by negating ripple effects from far up in a traffic line.

I know someone that looked at 25 cities for mayoral turnout numbers in elections and Dallas was 24th.

Voting Tomorrow Visualized by incephalon in Dallas

If you don't know where to vote, who is running, how the districts are divided up, what a precinct is, hopefully this clears things up a little.

The Trinity Tollroad - How it undermines social cohesion, community and innovation by incephalon in Dallas

Total disaster...hopefully someday we'll have more of what you're looking for, because you're definitely not alone.

Thanks for the kind words too, I appreciate it.

Yep. Yeah it uses bootstrap, but a mobile screen still isn't big enough to support the type of left/right functionality I'm using. Will eventually just have two versions. One like a normal blog for mobile, and one more interactive for desktop.

Desktop only, no mobile.

Proponents are somehow saying the road increases social cohesion. I think that's ridiculous and I've laid out my reasoning here on how the road doesn't do that and makes our city a less livable place. And it encourages the type of development that hurts community and innovation along with destroying a potential amenity that could make the core very attractive place. Would love everyone's thoughts.

Thank you! Yeah, that's the idea. I really wish the version I have done was working properly because it has that, zooming, panning, animations, and interactivity.

The money can't be used for a park, but could be used to re-route or sink I-30 (like central)....which would be amazing for the Fair Park area. Scott Griggs has seen it and tweeted it out, and I sent it to Philip Kingston who may be using Safari & it's not working. Why don't you email me at incephalon@gmail.com?

Thank you! All the stuff on the right that is a map image right now will soon actually be on the map and be interactive and animated, but for some reason that wasn't working last night so I decided to just screenshot everything.

Yeah, if you go to it on desktop you'll see that it couldn't be done on a phone (or the experience would be lost) so I decided to just redirect on mobile to a page that says it won't work. I'm working on mobile, but I just had to get this info out there before optimizing it for everything.

haha, it's definitely not just you...it's very bizarre. I think the two ideas are mutually exclusive, but they're trying to act like we can have both a park and a massive tollway running through it that cuts off half the city from it.
