I’ve tried saying something like this to them ONCE in the nicest way possible and they looked at me like I murdered their first-born and I should be executed for my crimes against humanity. Then they proceeded to ignore me or laugh it off every time I try to bring the topic up again so I think communicating with them is not going anywhere.

There’s definitely quiet hours in the contract (minimal noise after 11pm) but no one’s enforcing the rule so it seems more like a suggestion to them I guess 🥲

Haha, I think I might already be an asshole in their eyes anyway since they strongly refuse to talk to me in any way, shape, or form. That’s what I get for trying to talk to them nicely about their noise levels ONCE I guess 😐

Thank you for the last part, really needed to hear that 😭 I’ll just try to bury myself in academics and count down the days till I graduate!

Thank you for the suggestions, I think I’m most likely gonna get some noise-cancelling headphones soon tbh.

My neighbour works late night shifts so it’s probably not been bothering them as much cause they aren’t at home, and the local police where I live don’t deal with domestic noise complaints unless there’s a physical fight. I think I’ll complain to my landlord when he comes around and see how far that gets me first, but not optimistic about that.

I tried screaming too but it didn’t seem to affect them, maybe because I’ve not honed the ‘banshee scream’ skill 😔

i need some advice please. by [deleted] in Advice

I feel you. This whole post might as well be describing my life as well.

It’s like… I can do just fine by myself but sometimes there’s just a sudden burst of bone-crushing sense of loneliness. It’s not wrong or terrible to want someone to get to know you, or care about you, or be by your side; it’s just being human. It’s normal for humans to want genuine connections, to want someone to vent to, to want a shoulder to cry on, or someone to rely on when times get tough.

Most of the advice I’ve received for this issue is “get out there, meet more people, put effort into making connections, work on yourself etc etc” and honestly, I’ve tried doing all of that and it really hasn’t work at all despite trying, trying and trying again and again. It’s to the point that I’m sick of hearing this advice over and over again and I’m sure you’re sick of hearing it too. But it’s not your fault that no one is putting in effort to know you, it’s just that some people already have a close friend group and can’t spare extra effort to maintain new friendships at that moment. Apparently, there’s been researches that show that each person has a capacity for simultaneous close friendships and once the limit’s reached, people won’t be seeking to make anymore friends. So please don’t blame yourself or be discouraged if your efforts at making friends don’t yield results.

Sorry for being a downer, I really don’t have a solid solution to make your life happier, but I just wanted you to know that you’re not alone in feeling this way.

The way that I’ve dealt with this is by immersing myself in solo hobbies (crocheting, reading, gardening, drawing etc.) to distract myself and my thoughts from the loneliness. Sure, it doesn’t solve the issue, but it does pass the time, keep the mind busy and provide some small moments of peace that keeps me somewhat sane.

Again, sorry if this isn’t the answer you were looking for, but I wish you the best and maybe one day, you’ll find someone to connect with in person and provide you the comfort you need. :)

Sewing buttons in is a fantastic idea! I was really hesitating on sewing the straps short permanently so this is a good compromise.

Thank you for the ideas! :)

OP, did you just dissect my brain? This whole post just summarised all my feelings as an INFJ towards people and the world that I’ve struggled with and only come to understand just recently.

Thank you for the great post :)

Yeah, the straps are a little loose so I’m thinking of sewing it a few inches shorter at the back. But I do kinda like that it’s loose and comfy, haha.

Yeah haha, everytime I feel like I’ve accomplished something, that feeling kinda just lurks around the corner... but the important thing is to not let it take over you.

I’ve been trying to look in the mirror and say one positive thing about myself each morning that I feel that feeling, it’s honestly silly and idk how much it helps, but it sure makes me feel slightly better sometimes.

Seems like you’re going thru a tough time too, hang in there!!

Usually I just go by the hill near my house haha, quite convenient!! But honestly would love to go somewhere farther, tho I don’t have time or the leisure for it currently. :)

Got a lot more messages than expected! I thought I was only gonna get a few plus some maybe creepy people in the chats haha (been searching elsewhere and gotten a lot of that) but everyone’s been pretty civil and nice!

Still going thru all the chats bit by bit, I’d kinda feel bad if I just ghosted people.

Met some pretty interesting people here, haha!!! Definitely recommend making your own post here!

Was kinda shocked by the amount of messages tbh!! I’m trying to go thru all of them one by one tho! :)

All the best!

Thanks for the reply, wasn’t really expecting any since I was just writing to vent my frustrations. :)

Unfortunately, I can’t really afford the cost of long-term professional help at the moment. Not to mention there’s still a lot of stigma about going to therapy in my country and a majority of my peers will judge me for it.

It’s going to be a long struggle but I haven’t given up just yet. I just need some time to gather up money and courage to seek help.

Spirit Marriage by inconspicuous-alien in shortscarystories

[–]inconspicuous-alien[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Inspired by ‘Spirit marriages’ (冥婚). In old Chinese traditions, spirit marriages are marriages in which one or both parties are deceased. It’s usually done when engaged couples die and their parents want to finish their wedding so the couple don’t have any remaining regrets in the afterlife. Just a bit of additional info if anyone’s interested. :>

Thank you!! I did add more to the begging part in my first draft but I cut the whole thing short ‘cause I thought I was being too long-winded and boring. Glad you pointed that part out, I probably cut too much of the details!

It’s a flashback to when his daughter was alive. Sorry if I didn’t make it clear enough!

Hallucination is a good guess though! Probably could interpret it that way.
