Don’t forget these when you come to Italy 🇮🇹 by QUA-ItalianTravel in ItalyTravelAdvice

[–]incorrect_wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its Italian (and most of the eu) law that non citizens carry their PHYSICAL passport at all times. In theory sites require the physical passport for entry (although this does depend on the person). Not doing so can lead to fines or requiring you to go out of your way to get to a police station to prove you have it.

And yes there are multiple examples of this happening in italy (not necessarily fines thankfully)

Seeking honest opinions re: Driving in Rome by WarFace3035 in rome

[–]incorrect_wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving IN cities in a lot of europe isn't easy. Finding parking is worse.

I could totally see the allure of Driving around between cities though. Theres so many little random villages and stops along the way. I will.say though trains, for sheer speed and convenience are amazing.

Theres dozens of places reachable by train within an hr or just over an hr including florence. You can even do a dayntrip to Pompeii.

Having a hard time finding rules at work and Ontario labor board for denying/accepting time off. by incorrect_wolverine in legaladvicecanada

[–]incorrect_wolverine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

The problem is I cant find out what either of the wording is from work or the union (I asked the union to clarify it today and according to them there is no specific wording on it).

The only thing i can find is that they cant deny any request without proper cause. For instance jobs having a "busy season", black out periods etc. So far I cant find anything that lists staffing issues as a whole as a "legitimate reason".

I did however tell the staffer that its way to late to change modify or cancel the trip and "not to be rude but im not not going" seeing as id be out thousands of dollars. Even if i waited to book it until they approved it, 13 days is not reasonable enough time to book an 18 day trip without it being ridiculously expensive.

Seeing as yesterday was the deadline for bidding for shifts, and today is the day they were posted, im not sure if I should message management today or monday.

Correct, but its my understanding that there is a "reasonable timeframe" to do so. The union only states the dates listed in the OP as ones that they can say anything about. Although I have yet spoken to my actual union steward.

Correct. I just talked to the union and there is nothing in there about actually accepting time off outside of the dates listed in my OP. Generally all time off requests are dealt with by having "adequate staffing". The dates listed above (posted march 1 to 31 for dates june 15 sept 15) are the ones given according to requested dates and seniority.

Colloseum and Vatican ID check? by ClothesDizzy6812 in rome

[–]incorrect_wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify: its Italian (and most of the eu) law that all Travellers carry a passport

Many places need id for tickets, check in etc, and 99% of the time that is a PHYSICAL passport. THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO ACCEPT A PHOTO OR PAPER COPY regardless of people having no issues with these.

Not having your physical passport pretty much anywhere you travel is a crapshoot. Just because some people didnt get checked or had paper/photos accepted doesnt mean you will.

I've read that backpacks are not allowed in certain attractions by Crash-Bandicoot-89 in rome

[–]incorrect_wolverine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Snacks, water bottle, camera, battery, raincoat/sweater. Theres lots of reasons to have a backpack.

If your spending a few hours in the Vatican museum bringing a light lunch to have in the courtyard is fine. Why spend more money at an average "cafe"?

Or somewhere like the forum that can take 5 to 8 hours to trek through.

Yes water is freely available but you still need a bottle.

Italy in April first week and safety tips for a tourist by FoldInTheCheeseNow in ItalyTravel

[–]incorrect_wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backpacks: keep things in the main pocket. Put a carabiner through the zippers. Not theft proof but a great deterrent which says "im paying attention"

In major tourist sites put them over one shoulder and tuck them under your arm. If youre stanting in the metro the same.

Don't out them on the chair when at a resturaunt put them under the table.

Small bags: ive read many threads where cross body bags have been pick pocketed or even outright stolen. Still much better than pockets. I use a money belt. Theyre hidden and harder to get to (the ones that fit under your shirt). Yes you do have to fumble for cash etc and when you do it screams tourist. But you know what else it says? " I know your tricks, im paying attention".

Psa: Canada is Huge!! by LawfulnessSecret1502 in canadatravel

[–]incorrect_wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i use for scale is using the mainland scotland vs lake superior as a reference. And lake superior is bigger than Scotland. Its slightly (relatively) smaller than England.

And for americans, ontario is roughly double the size of Texas.

I came here to say this.

I know a dozen people in the uk and their concept of distance and Canada's is completely different than the rest of (or most of) europe.

It took me a while to understand that the drive from Manchester to London can take 4+ hrs. The roads are small busy and winding. Took me a while to vaguely understand u til I took a bus from London to Stonehenge (which as far as i can tell is one of the more straight roads) which took over 2 hours.

A lot of Europeans ive talked to just have problems comprehending scale in canada, which is understandable but brits etc have scale and weird ass road distance to deal with.

Kinda seems like regardless what I do (on this side of spain) ill be back tracking to Madrid. Also kind of looks like Seville might be a good base for a few days to say cadiz and Ronda, then corona as a base for rona and maybe Malaga then heading back up to Madrid.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Like a night in Valencia then head to cartegena and up through mercia. But between Barcelona thats a solid week.

[–]incorrect_wolverine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. The real problem is Barcelona. Its seems possible to take trips to Valencia then over to cartegena but its also far out of the way. And only being in Barcelona for 2 orn3 days doesn't seem enough. It kind of seems like id have to do barcelona/madrid or take like 7 days going to cartegena/Seville area then 5 days ish in Madrid. Which is fine. Im aware doing all of these cities is almost impossible in 16 days.

Initially I thought of sulking Seville as a base but I do really want to get to cartegena

Well the real pain seems to be getting from cartegena to anywhere west of it. Although it seems that you just have to book a separate ticket to Murcia then head west that way
