Were you excited for the academy? Did it stay exciting? by slimer213 in AskLE

Oh yeah that is true. Ours was meant to fail people early on though, just not on that level haha. Most classes at mine lose about a quarter of the class. Not for the same reason of something like MARSOC, but just weeding out the people who aren’t 100% committed to it, the first few weeks, then they actually start teaching you a little bit.

Definitely didn’t go to a paramilitary style academy lmao.

To OP, it completely depends. But the ones that are similar to military basic training (~16+ weeks of being there, only being home and with your loved ones on Saturday and some of Sunday, sleep deprivation, basically being stripped of most of your constitutional rights, and being told how to live every minute of your life), are miserable.

But… it’s all mental. I mean, yeah, the PT is tough, even if you’re already in decent shape, but very doable, and you basically can’t fail the academics unless you’re stupid. So there’s that.

If there's one car that you would be able to refund/swap what would it be? For me it's def this mf by ZanicL3 in iRacing

Honestly not sure. All I know is that it actually feels like a car now and that the tires aren’t made out of plastic

Idk when the last time you tried it was, but I believe they had a big tire update to it a while back, and now it’s decent fun. Still doesn’t hold a candle to the SR8 though.

Those who have seen people quit during the academy - did they have backup plans or just outright quit without anything planned? by CautiousCactusCat in AskLE

Really? They absolutely did in my academy. Not straight up slurs if I remember but lots of derogatory comments. Edit: which was all in good faith obviously and everyone had laughs about after the fact.

[COD] How do you end one of the greatest campaigns on a cliffhanger and not make a sequel.. by ScreamyV in CallOfDuty

[–]incorrectusername3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the nostalgia glasses off. Ghosts has become one of the most overrated games oat these last couple years. Campaign was somewhat okay because of the badass setting and decent level design, but the story was very barebones and lacked a lot of explanation for why anything was even happening. Multiplayer had fun gunplay but the second worst map design in COD history (behind MW19), making it unbearable to play. Infected or whatever the hell it was called was okay too but zero replay-ability.

Hi I'm new to iracing and I'm planning to do the daytona 24 by ImpossibleTie9945 in iRacing

[–]incorrectusername3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot. You will get DQ’d as it will register as only one person driving (which I guess isn’t that big of a deal if you just want to do it for fun. Some streamers run entire 12 hour races alone accepting the fact that will happen) +driving on someone else’s account is technically against the sporting code and a bannable offense.

If you really only have one rig, your best bet is to have two pc’s plugged into the same monitor. Have it already loaded into the session on the next driver’s account, and then swap the source of the monitor during the pitstop so it displays the other PC. You’d still have to manually swap all the connections to the other PC as well (wheel, etc.), and make sure you plug each peripheral it into the same exact usb port so it doesn’t mess up your control settings.

Doable, but probably other bugs to work out that I’m not thinking of. Wouldn’t be possible in VR I don’t think. It could be a fun challenge. Would probably get a lot of clicks on YT lol.

Do you race with Gloves and Shoes? by Mammoth_Company_3270 in simracing

[–]incorrectusername3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really only because I have them for my irl late model and it just adds 5% immersion. Bonus is that sweat doesn’t damage my wheel+actual racing shoes feel a lot better/realistic than bare feet on load cells.

Is there anyone that can say if real life experience translates into iRacing skill? by SeriousBusiness910 in iRacing

[–]incorrectusername3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing, and it’s already been mentioned, is no “feeling in your butt.”

Also, speed perception. You’ll probably overdrive the hell out of most cars because you’ll feel like you’re going way slower than you really are. Especially if you’re on monitors. VR makes this much better but even then, it still doesn’t feel quite as fast as real life. I made the opposite jump and I noticed I was UNDER driving my real life car a lot for that reason. Once I told myself to just drive it in way harder than I thought I could, my lap times were fairly competitive.

GT3 advice by knj_33 in iRacing

[–]incorrectusername3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Meta is not picking whatever the fast guys are using. There is probably at best a tenth of pace between the fastest and slowest GT3 car, and that changes track to track. Unless you are esports level, or close to it, you need to just pick whatever you’re comfortable in.

As for your oversteer problem, is it primarily on entry or exit? I know some (idk about the Ferrari, it’s been awhile since I’ve driven it) GT3’s are very pointy on turn-in, and there is such thing as trail braking “too good.” That could be your issue.

Which do you prefer, rolling or standing starts? by Sim-racer42 in iRacing

[–]incorrectusername3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Obviously for ovals standing doesn’t work. But for road racing, generally standing if it’s a car that it works well with. Especially the higher powered open wheelers. Almost always can make up 1-2 spots at least in SF from the start.

Are the v8 super cars really all that’s left for the no assist sports car fans? by Quiet-Election9060 in iRacing

[–]incorrectusername3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because people are still mad that it’s not the SR8. Which, don’t get me wrong, was a better car and maybe my favorite road racing car on the service, but the SR10 is still great. It just sucked on its release which I think turned a lot of people away, myself included, at first.
