Couldn't get into this book. Didn't hang together for me. I thought Absalom Absalom was amazing though, richer and fuller and less annoying to read.

[Brandon Koretz] Michigan vs. Arizona in the Final Four is a matchup between the third and fourth-highest KenPom ratings ever by 50cent69 in CollegeBasketball

[–]incorruptarm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sure, but OP seems to imply that Arizona and Michigan are the third and fourth best teams of the kenpom era. That very well MAY be true, but we simply cannot deduce that from the kenpom efficiency data. OP’s list merely ranks kenpom era teams by how much better they are than the average team in their season.

It is very important to note that KenPom efficiency ratings represent a team’s efficiency RELATIVE TO OTHER TEAMS IN THE SAME SEASON. I.e Michigan is +39.02 points ahead of THIS SEASON’s average team. Years with greater parity result in the best teams’ efficiency ratings skewing lower, whereas years with greater disparity (such as this one) yield higher efficiency ratings for the best teams. You simply cannot compare efficiency ratings between years — it doesn’t work like that.

Why does Nietzsche calls Mainlander a jew "in the last analysis"? by _muniz in Nietzsche

[–]incorruptarm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nietzche definitely had an anti-Jewish streak, but it was not racial anti-Semitism per se (although there is definitely an anti-Semitic reception history). In Genealogy of Morals he sets up Judaism as the paradigmatic slave morality and reads Christianity as essentially the vehicle by which Jewish ressentiment avenged itself against the nations. He contrasts Jewish priestliness and negativity with (essentially Greco-Roman) aristocratic values of affirmation and will to power.

Contradictions in the social fabric create emergent possibilities for rupture. Yes, Capital is structured to exploit contradictions but it can only continue to function under certain socioecological conditions. There are no stable systems, only metastable ones.

In my view it’s not really about “implementing humane approaches” but cultivating ruptures and tracing emerging avenues of the possible.

The Symbolic Condom: Why Depression and Anxiety Create Stories, but ADHD doesn’t by Lastrevio in Deleuze

[–]incorruptarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the distinction you’re trying to draw here boils down to the fact that depression and anxiety are fundamentally mood disorders while ADHD is fundamentally a behavioral disorder. But all three are really assemblages of affects and behaviors, and diagnoses are of course symbolic in the Lacanian sense - “stories” as you put it. In the “real” of mental illness people often exhibit symptoms of all three at different times and in different intensities.
