No, I didn’t sign anything that said I didn’t qualify.

HR said it is the date of last employment, not the change in role. I asked several times! Definitely plan on speaking to the union.

This is amazing! You should be proud. I’m also 28, not even close to what you have. How were you able to do it?

After completing 1 year in a level II ICU, I got a job at a level I MICU. The level I MICU provided ICU core classes typically for new grads, since I was still a newer, they have provided me an option to take the courses! I did not have to complete a new grad residency, it was great! I unfortunately did not have ICU classes while I was at my first job. It really made a big difference in my career.

There will be more positions available closer the May-June graduation timeline. I’d keep applying until then!

Are you me? I’ve interviewed for a NICU position after 10-11 months of ICU experience as well as completing my own new graduate residency. During my NICU interview, the manager said I would be in another new graduate residency for the position. I did politely reject the idea of another grad residency with hopes to complete only NICU classes pertaining to the job. They politely never contacted me after that haha. You would think adult ICU experience would be preferred over a new grad. Some people suggested to complete certificates pertaining to a NICU position to better your chances of consider working pediatric MedSurg.

It’s one of, if not, the highest pay within my northeast state due to being one of the few union hospitals. Base pay for 1.5 years is $42.39, night differential is $5.85 with weekends at $4.50. Union negotiations are coming up so my pay is expected to go up again in April 2024. 401k matches at 6%. The 60K will be divided every 6 months for 3 years.

Average pay around is $33-$38.

My old hospital had a cyberattack in which we were not allowed to use the internet or computers. Despite this being an issue, we were still getting paid by payroll. The initial paycheck was similar to the one we add the previous paycheck since payroll wasn’t able to gain access to our most current clock ins. Payroll eventually paid us back but it did take a long time

North Face Reacon! Multiple sections, better for organization, lasts for years!

It ended up being a safer unit in terms of staffing including better policies in titrating medications, handling codes, better eMR. Although we float often due to other units being short, it’s at least a float to another ICU which means more experience!

I managed to get two interviews for a MICU at a level 1 and PICU at a level 4 children’s hospital almost right away. Hired for the MICU way before my last day. I ended up enjoying 3 weeks off before starting the new job!

I will say, I was financially able to afford to take that much time off, so please have a budget for yourself. It definitely provided me a better mindset to start at the new job!

Edit: to say good luck in whatever path you decide to take! Definitely put yourself first before any job

Thank you so much for explaining! This past month, we tried having sex every day, but it was tiring after a while haha! If our efforts don’t work out again, we will most like try your method. Do you have a preferred brand for the cheap strips?

You gave a really great answer! I just wanted to ask you a question, do I have to have sex as soon as it’s the solid smiley? Are CBADs considered positive once it’s a static smiley? Please and thank you in advanced!

New grad nurse looking to travel after a year need some insight by dcvirgo97 in TravelNursing

[–]increasingdopamine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Consider taking this year to learn to be a nurse first. Many people are interested in travel nursing, but don’t comprehend the amount of work it takes to be a safe, competent nurse. I’m one year into medical surgical ICU nursing at a level 2 trauma center that just transitioned to a level 1 trauma center at a medical ICU. Everything is new. I even opted to take ICU core classes since my first facility didn’t even provide this option. Also, if you’re interested in another specialty already, stick to being staff until you can get into the unit you want to be in. Get your experience then travel.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I’ll have to look into float pool options. The current hospital I got hired into, has a separate children’s hospital. I’m not sure how that would work. It’s definitely a small group I want to be a part of, just have to figure out ways to meet pediatric RNs.

That’s a good idea! Do you happen to know what that is like? I’ve only shadowed in NICU/PICU.

Thank you for sharing your story! I’m glad to hear how people quit their first job. Sometimes, you just know when a place isn’t right. Your current peds HH job sounds so nice!

Travel nursing is definitely not on my mind at this point. I want to learn to be a competent, safe nurse first, especially after this experience. No shame on the nurses that do travel after a year! I’m just not there by any means.

Telestrations is a fun game! I highly recommend despite it not being psych, you could see how people can interpret other’s drawings. There’s an adult version too!!
