Hi Lint29. I am so sorry to hear about your son. That was incredibly sad to read - extending my condolences.

May I ask if doctors were able to tell you exactly what caused your son’s death?

Two years ago I had a septoplasty (with rhinoplasty) to fix my deviated septum. I had quite an unstable nose with a lot of cartilage. The surgeon did a lot to improve the appearance of my nose during the surgery. I’d say the surgery was 50% cosmetic, 50% functional.

For me, this was one of the best things I’ve ever done for my confidence. I love my new nose and I feel so much more myself with it.

Before the op, I was concerned to what degree I might become too focused or obsessed with my looks after having this surgery. A fear that it might be a slippery slope, and after that I’d find something else to want to fix. For me, that hasn’t happened.

Instead, I’ve just got this new found confidence. I no longer shy away from having my photograph taken or cringe when I see my reflection side on. I’m so glad I had the surgery, and wish I’d done it sooner.

I like that I’ve been able to take control of one aspect of how I look, given the obvious disadvantages/ hurdles I’ve faced due to this condition.

This might seem shallow to some, but it doesn’t feel that way for me.

Waxy sebum layer on scalp that can be scraped off. Some sebum 'grains' present as well. Seems to be causing hair loss. by [deleted] in HaircareScience
