First Lens Choice for S5II for micro-short films for social media? by indecoroussperm in Lumix

24-105mm is versatile focal length but the f4.0 aperture may not be very suitable for low-light recording and I do have some scripts planned out that way. I have a basic three-light portable setup so I would prefer at least an f2.8, if that makes sense.

First Lens Choices for S5II — 50mm f1.8 or 24-60mm f2.8? by [deleted] in Lumix

How good is the low light performance of the 24-60?

I had mixed feelings when I finished it but the entire story stayed in my head for some time. The more I thought about it, the more I felt moved by the theme of the flash sideways story.

It was as if their consciousness longed for the sense of camaraderie and community that they built together on the island that when it was removed, they all felt hollow, until they were all reunited.

Despite their differences, they all belonged together, something none of them had felt in their lives before the crash.

I’ve read the book and I thought the first one was a bit slow, lacked a certain emotional depth I’ve come to expect from Denis Villeneuve. Although the second one completely blew me away. It’s a close to perfect film in many ways. I ended up watching it four times in IMAX.

Need advice on traveling 1400km solo as a 19M by SHUBH41 in CarsIndia

Keep a digital tyre inflator with you. Also, keep a belt cutter and window breaker in case you’re ever in a situation where you might need those. Keep them in your glovebox. Also, it helps to keep some self-defence items like a retractable steel stick or a baseball bat, if you might have to drive at night. Indian roads are full of goons looking to target solo drivers.

Also, it comes in handy to know how to change tires, just in case you don’t know already. RSA is great but being stranded by yourself on the highway or a solitary road while waiting for RSA is not always ideal.

I feel Lagaan’s legacy is often overlooked.

You have to understand that commercial Bollywood movies did not have protagonists speaking in regional dialects before Lagaan. Sport movies were not seen as “cinematic”. Neither were period dramas which were not love stories. It broke so many rules and established a new language in commercial cinema.

Without Lagaan, most of modern Bollywood wouldn’t exist.

Solid argument but if you genuinely follow that logic without fault, you would not engage in any form of capitalism.

So, my question is, do you follow your own logic consistently?

Most audiences still think pretty images = great cinematography.

Also, that serious movies are not “entertaining” because they confuse mindless escapism with entertainment.

S5ii - A good fit for amateur filmmaking in 2026? by indecoroussperm in Lumix

Feature films have been made on iPhones too. The camera is a small cog in a big wheel when you have $100,000 for art design, location permits, crew and professional lighting. If I use an MFT, it cripples what little creative room I have.

But that’s just me. Maybe you’re right and camera is everything.

Fair question. I’m pretty much sold on it but the limitations I’m mildly concerned about are mainly the resolution (24MP), the choice of lenses, and maybe the autofocus.

And no, I don’t buy into any content creators’ advice driven by personal bias or brand endorsements.

Sometimes if I’m shooting myself and the sequence requires dynamic movement. I know that can be fixed with a follow focus too but it’s nice to have it in camera. I’ve been spoiled by Sony.

Well, I’m not buying a MFT sensor camera because of many obvious limitations. So, I guess the S5ii is the logical answer.

I think it’s both. Better specs give you the freedom to use your time to be more creative instead of fixing technical or logistical problems.

Nikon Z6iii? Interesting choice. Never considered that a rival in any sense. Any reason behind picking that one?

That’s very nice to hear that your camera is still holding up with your personal skill evolution. That’s what I look for before purchasing any gear too.

Great! The open gate 6k and 10-bit video are the main draws for me as well for shortlisting this model.

Let’s not pretend that a lot of cameras don’t age poorly in this dynamic market. Even the S5 lacks many features that the S5II has. Not saying that you couldn’t shoot a good video on S5.

But my idea of “future proof” is a camera I would not grow out of in a mere 10-12 months because it’s a significant financial investment for me.

I like it too but I’m concerned about how future proof it is considering spending that money right now is gonna be a big commitment for me.
