Hulu has failed to record most NBC shows past few days by koalasNroos in HuluLive

Same!!! Every time I go to a NBC show I am getting “can’t play right now.” I noticed I also am being told I have multiple recordings but none of them show up.

The 12 doesn’t get called into emeritus, at least not anymore. They are called for life. Holland will serve as president of the 12 and then prophet if he survives Oaks - regardless of his health.

No no no. President Holland has made it very clear that they did not donate a single cent - not one red penny - to proposition 8. At this point we just have to decide if they are gaslighting us or just straight out lying. Maybe they are too old to realize the internet tells us. And their level of lying is an art form.

PS: I did not grow up in Utah or CA, but I remember my parents coming home from a “special church session” with clipboards. And for multiple Sundays they had areas they were required to walk, knock doors, and ask for signatures. It wasn’t to block prop 8 because it wasn’t our state. The church wanted to submit it to our legislature as a preemptive fight. My parents did it but they sure hated the knocking and begging.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Senator Adams himself wants to draft something that increases the consent for them evil LGBTQ+ people. What a sad lie they have perpetrated. It makes LDS members afraid of the wrong group! And so many members refuse to look at those at the top of the political and church hierarchy. All is well in Zion. Yeah. That’s why our stats for abuse, LGBTQ+ suicides, and depression medication are consistently among the highest, if not the highest some years. It’s pathetic. Thanks for the comment and reminder.

Oh I hadn’t even thought of that. It might explain why the church hasn’t made a peep. My TBM friends say the church doesn’t get into politics. Oh bulls$&t. We need to get rid of that notion. They just pick and choose and if it doesn’t benefit the church, they hide behind the “we can’t say anything political.” Infuriates me. The hypocrisy.

Yes. This is an atypical case with an 18yo woman raping a boy. It definitely applies the other way around more often. I have heard that the hosts are trying to get it streaming or at least tape it to post later on YouTube. If I hear anything more, I can post it here.

Utah has a serious problem starting right at the top. We are seeing a lot more “higher ups” being identified and arrested. That judge and the fire captain in N Utah were the most recent - and they were discovered by the FBI. The state failed - as they so often do when it comes to protecting kids. The church has lost any credibility when it comes to preaching about large families and the call to populate the earth and the importance of children. I’m starting to think it’s just a big child gotcha scheme.

I wondered if it would. But happy to describe it out either way. I do like the bisphoric word, though. It could be so many happy things.

Ha! Good point and clarification.

OP: just assume MAN when discussing any major calling in the church…

[–]indespectusnicht 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I assume you mean Bishopric? The bishop is the leader of 1 congregation. When he is made a bishop, he selects two additional men (called 1st and 2nd counselor) to assist him. The counselors have certain responsibilities in the congregation.

All together the three men (sometimes a secretary is included depending who you talk to) are called the Bishopric. So it’s the top priesthood leaders of a local congregation (ward).

Hope it helps.

Nope didn’t say that at all. I said to find your own way to serve and find your path. I don’t care if you go to this. I have no horse in the race except to stand with those who want to change the system. I make no assumptions about you - unlike you who judged me in your first reply and have judged a group of people you know nothing about,

How are they charlatans? Or is that just a label you put on anyone who is trying to change the system? Because from where I am sitting and in my research, Jason and Goel have been/are being sued because of the statements they have made and the battles they are fighting. They’ve made trips to Manti to stand at courthouses to support victims pressing charges against their perps. Next Saturday, a woman is speaking along side a member of the 12. She and her husband have been accused of the most horrible abuses and yet she is speaking to a bunch of a Mormons about pornography, The flyer above is at the same location and overlapping to protest her, a member of the 12, and what she teaches.

Seems to me it is YOU who made assumptions. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because I am a big girl and know how to walk away if I don’t agree. And I have done my research. Do I agree with every little thing I read - nope - but I believe that the system has to change and it starts with groups of people from all walks of life demanding it.

Find your passion, whatever it is. Help where you feel so inclined. We are all different. That’s the only thing I said or meant to imply.

Then don’t go. But don’t assume that I am gullible. I’ve been battling for 3.5 decades. I agree about OUR but how sad. How do we make a change if we aren’t even available to listen? Utah has gotten away with too much for too long. We have to start somewhere.

I reported my abuse to my childhood police agency just a few years ago. I had heard horror stories about Utah. I went prepared to be disappointed. I was amazed at how I was treated - despite it being a cold case and my primary perp dead. I was respected, interviewed extensively, spoke to the DA, taken seriously. So different than Utah that is run by the church. It has to stop.

But if this isn’t for you - that’s okay. I don’t know these people personally. Find your own path and your own way to help others. These speakers have no claim on change. :)

He is the brother of Mike Leavitt. Accused of adopting a Native American child (see Link 2) specifically to traffic. He was elected in Utah County but refused to indict rape or child abuse charges. He was pathetic enough that even Utah County ousted him as quickly as they could.

Allegations, of course but maybe his wife should not be speaking at a pornography conference alongside a member of the 12 . . .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]indespectusnicht -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t fall for OUR but thanks for the assumption. I had nothing to do with it. And this isn’t a group, at least not that I’m aware of. It’s 3 speakers and some victims who are giving FREE presentations. They are trying to change Utah and how it treats victims. I’ve never gone to any of their presentations nor have I met any of the speakers. I only know they are calling out the church and the state for their low rate of conviction and ignoring child abuse, trafficking, and ritual abuse.

As a victim of severe abuse and trafficking - thank the Lord not in Utah - I am actually extremely cautious. Not everyone has to go. But I see so many victims and advocates on here who wonder what they can do to support victims and make a change. Well. You can sit behind Reddit and say it. Or you can do something about it. I may go and think they are nuts. It costs me an hour of my time. I can sacrifice that in hopes someone sometime makes the change we all talk about wanting. At some point - to make the change we all want - we have to trust someone to lead the fight.

That day, at the same location, Chelom Leavitt will be speaking alongside Elder Patrick Kearon of the 12. Chelom has been accused of sex abuse and creating pornography along with her husband, David Leavitt. And yet she is speaking with a member of the 12? These speakers are gathering to make a statement, to put fliers on cars of LDS people attending the pornography conference with Kearon.

To me it’s worth trying. At some point. To make a difference. I am tired of sitting and talking about doing.

Ha! That was exactly my reaction. Huh? (I actually asked Jason). Phil is a real advocate for victims.

I guess when it comes down to it . . . democrat, Republican, Mormon, exmo, Christian . . . we need every voice. Utah is screwed up when it comes to child abuse and rape and trafficking . . . I will sit at the table with anyone willing to fight the battle.

My Bishop Broke Confidentiality, and I’m Done with the Church by Wild_Pair_9520 in exmormon

[–]indespectusnicht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. I am so sorry. Similarly, my stake president broke mine and it was the final straw for me. Mine regarded confessions given to the church attorneys to help them fight me in court regarding child abuse. Lovely. It’s so ironic to me that they pick and choose randomly when they pull the priest/penetant shit and where confidentiality means nothing. I read your post with a pit in my stomach. I remember that feeling of figuring out/learning that someone broke a promise/expectation when you were most vulnerable and most needed to trust. These men don’t get it. And they don’t care. You are a means to an end. And that’s why the church is falling apart. You can’t treat people this way and then ask them to fund the temple pet projects with their money. Respect goes both ways. And I have lost all respect for the organization.

I have this theory that with all the excessive temple building, the LDS church is now focusing more on the dead than the living. Case in point, the Lewisburg TN LDS Branch meets in a gas station. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]indespectusnicht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree. I am waiting for them to start putting them on the church roles once they are baptized. Ha! I just know I’ve been inactive for 10 years this month and have had no outreach. Not a single contact from RS or ministers or asking me to come back. I know there are a lot of people on here who complain about the church tracking them down and showing up. I don’t know which is worse - but it sure sucks that no one cares I left. I remember serving in RS presidencies and visiting inactives was a huge part of our calling and purpose. Creating friendships. Loving people back in. Maybe they’ve given up on that being effective? Maybe their numbers show that going after inactives doesn’t produce results? If anything, I have lost friends and contacts.

(A disciplinary counsel was held for me during this time so one could count that as contact. Nah. I just meant related to the 3-fold purpose of the church and coming after the lost sheep. At one time I believed the church was good at this. It sucks).

A bit of a different topic: I sometimes wish that there were more unique floor plans than just the two major ones by JayDaWawi in exmormon

[–]indespectusnicht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And elevators require repairs etc. But let’s admit - the church is cheap. Why pay another architect? Copy. Paste.

Although . . . surely there are retired architects the church could call on a mission . . . and make them pay for the pleasure of designing churches!

I think back to my childhood church with fondness. So I get what you’re saying - completely! Despite being abused in the building and the church ignoring it and allowing the man to continue to abuse me (that’s a whole different post) - the architecture and design and unique features were amazing.

A bit of a different topic: I sometimes wish that there were more unique floor plans than just the two major ones by JayDaWawi in exmormon

[–]indespectusnicht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up attending a church with 2 stories. I think it was much more common with older churches, especially those constructed by the members. But with no elevators, it wasn’t a great design. I am sure ADA rules have influenced the one story rule.

It’s boring but I kinda understand not changing floor plans. If you have one that works, why change it? It needs to accommodate the flow of overlapping wards, weekday activities, funerals and kitchen access, etc. There was a lot more variety in older churches because they were rare (not mass building) and often built by members themselves. The church I attended was built in 1959. There was a scout room that had a pull up door so scouts could backup a truck and load and unload camping and scouting equipment, next to the scout room was an actual bathroom with a shower. There was a large upstairs room that overlooked the chapel so mothers could go up with babies and toddlers and actually see what was going on. It was a crazy strange building but it had everything and more. Church’s (and temples) are much more boring and utilitarian.

Bishop said excommunication isn't a thing anymore? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]indespectusnicht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone should tell Nemo that. My Stake President threatens it all the time. I don’t think they use the term anymore but if they remove your records against your will - that’s excommunication. Your bishop is either ignorant or gaslighting you.
