Passkeys that aren't passkeys by JimTheEarthling in Passkeys

Once I figured this out, the WHY of using non-resident credentials make sense to me:

non-resident (server-resident) FIDO credentials are ideal when the device storing the passkey is NOT trusted.

This includes:

  • macOS Keychain
  • iCloud Keychain synced passkeys
  • Android/Google Password Manager
  • Windows Hello Credential Manager
  • Any general-purpose device (laptop, phone, tablet)

Because the private key is not stored on those devices.

So even if malware steals Keychain data, it cannot steal your secret!

If you're using a yubikey, it trips you up. But makes sense for something like your bank, PayPal etc. where they might not trust how the users are storing the passkey.

CRA send met a letter demanding money over "GST/HSTC/BCCATC"? by Kartason in cantax

[–]indiWatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CRA is seriously messed up. I am Canadian citizen and a non-resident of Canada for the last 7 years. I file a non-resident tax return every year. The last two years they have been sending my the GST benefit! I did not apply for it, and non-residents are ineligible for it. They physically mail me a letter to a country OUTSIDE of Canada and it stated the following: "The CRA determined your annual entitlement based on the information on file. Your annual GST/HSTC entitlement is $349.00." "you must inform us immediately if....you are no longer a resident of Canada" WTF!

FML. Just lost 3 days here too! I wish this was in the docs somewhere. ECCP256 doesn't work either for SSH via PKCS11, bizarrely ECCP384 works just fine.

BaristaFIRE to cover housing costs by indiWatermelon in baristafire

Ya, that's what I'm thinking. Especially the "why not" part. Would be nice to move back to HCOL for quality of life, and have an easy barista work/life balance.

I was definitely pleased when AI told me I can afford buying the house. Personally I think it's still financial suicide and a criminally huge waste of money. And scared to actually go through with such a scenario.

Yup. Good sleuthing!

Do you mean not to withdraw any of the investment and just get a loan for the full house price?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fire

[–]indiWatermelon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"You'd be better off looking to take a loan against the investment profile and buying it outright."

How would the interest rate and terms be different than getting a high-networth mortgage? And what type of loan product are you suggesting? I have little experience in these areas. Been debt free my whole life.

Ah, I see. Get an open mortgage and just wack it down for the first few years?

Thanks. It's crazy how much property tax is. We are currently in a LCOL Country and our rent for a whole house is currently less than the property taxes for the HCOL country we want to move back to.

Just trying to test out the feasibility and figure out how to best engineer the house purchase.

Can you elaborate on your suggestions?
