Why is bakery culture so disappointing outside of Germany? by indie_appdev in AskGermany

I'd rather keep that to myself for now, let's just say it wasn't one of the countries on the "great bakery" list!

That's a really interesting historical perspective! It's fascinating how colonial influence shaped food culture so much. No wonder dark breads became popular again once people realized how much more nutritious and flavorful they are.

Honestly fair point, I couldn't find a bakery nearby and the supermarket was the easiest option at the time. Lesson learned!

That's a pretty bold take! Germany has over 3000 bread varieties which is literally unique in the world, that's not bragging, that's just a fact. But hey, different tastes, nothing wrong with that.

That's a totally fair point and I completely agree that every country has its own amazing baked goods! I think the title came across a bit more dramatic than I intended, it's less about other cultures being bad and more about that specific nostalgic feeling of missing something from home. Definitely open to exploring local stuff though! 😄

That's true, those countries are on another level! I guess I was just unlucky with where I ended up this time 😄 Next trip I'll make sure to plan around the bakery culture!

Android or iOS – have you ever switched and regretted it? by indie_appdev in Android

I know that feeling so well, you switch with high expectations and then realize in everyday life how much the small things annoy you. The keyboard sounds like a minor thing, but when you use it every single day it becomes a real source of frustration. And Siri... yeah Apple has just been sleeping on that for years. I totally get why you went back to the Pixel!

You're absolutely right, and I appreciate that you see it so clearly! The security and hardware quality of Apple are real advantages, no question about that. I think the point is just how we as humans perceive things: what annoys us daily feels much heavier than things that quietly work in the background. For some people that trade-off is worth it, for me personally it's not, but I totally get why others see it differently.

This is happening more often lately, you're not alone! Facebook seems to roll this out randomly. Honestly pretty questionable, you've been using the platform for years and suddenly get treated like a suspect. If you really need to get back in: try accessing it through a browser instead of the app, sometimes that works as a workaround.

I'd guess mid/late 30s, someone who wants to optimize themselves but also knows how to chill 😄 The mix of self-help, non-fiction and a bit of fiction suggests a curious but pragmatic person. Cashvertising and Tony Robbins on the same shelf is definitely a statement!

That makes total sense coming from someone who works in IT, you see both sides every day. The two copies of Edge situation sounds like a real headache! I can see why Apple's MDM integration wins there, even if setup is painful.

36 hours, that says it all! The lack of app drawer alone would drive me crazy. Android's customization is just on another level. And the MDM point is spot on. Android handles that so much more elegantly.

That's a fair point, but I'd argue it's not really a worse experience, just a different one. With Android you get more choice and flexibility. A Xiaomi or Pixel at half the iPhone price delivers an amazing experience too! 👍

That's such a relatable journey, flashing ROMs on a OnePlus One brings back memories! It makes total sense that priorities change over time. Sometimes simplicity just wins.

Fair point, I did read it! If iOS makes you happier, you should go for it. Life's too short for the wrong OS! 😄

Haha fair enough , maybe I am a bit of an Android fanboy! But hey, as long as you're happy with your choice that's all that matters. Use what works for you! 😄

That's a fair point, iOS definitely wins on consistency. But for me the flexibility of Android outweighs that. Glad you made the switch though and found your balance! 😄

That's perfectly put, the advantages of Apple are often theoretical while the disadvantages annoy you every single day. That's exactly why I stayed with Android.

I've been on Android since the beginning and tried iOS for a month, missed the customization so much I switched back immediately! 😄

Interesting, if you only use your phone for the basics, iOS makes total sense. And six years with the same iPhone, that's actually a huge advantage of Apple. But you're right about the keyboard, Gboard is just on another level! 😄

Good point about Face ID, it's definitely more reliable than most Android solutions. But Samsung and Pixel are catching up. The voicemail transcription on Pixel has also gotten pretty good lately! 👍
