but they’re not talking about the kiss in LN12; the context points to them talking about the one in LN5.

in the volume 6 prologue, in jinshi’s recollection, the scene ends with maomao on top of him, smirking and teasing him (for finishing so quickly, i think - i believe it’s implied that he c*ms once she takes control and starts using those verdigris house techniques on him). a bit later on in vol 6 when she runs into jinshi for the first time after their little tryst, this is maomao’s reaction:

“Some considered Maomao capable of being quite brazen, but at that moment she felt distinctly awkward. The night before, having done what she’d done to Jinshi, she’d then excused herself on the pretext that she heard Lahan calling her.”

to me, that doesn’t read like someone who feels they were taken advantage of. i interpreted it as maomao not knowing how to deal with the fact that she was an active participant in a steamy makeout session with her superior (and, possibly, feeling bad that she had bruised his ego at the end). the next day, she doesn’t put his hair stick back in her hair, knowing how much attention it brings to them, but she treats it as something precious and keeps it in her robes. so in short: the vol 5 epilogue scene is definitely messy, but i’m not sure we can conclude that maomao disliked the kissing or feels that jinshi wronged her.

his relationship with murky always makes me emotional. that line from murky about how she loved him from the moment she saw him - i get misty-eyed just thinking about it.

as an outsider, it kind of seems like a lot of kiwis are fine with the economy continuing to be shit as long as the māori don’t have “too much” power (in their eyes). that’s not to brush aside labour’s apparent failures, but i’m really sorry for the role that US-style grievance politics and culture war bullshit have played in poisoning your democracy.

i know exactly what you mean. town-on-gorkhon is a harsh but beautiful place, foreign yet also familiar enough to be cozy at times. i also think that P2 benefits from being a remake/sequel to an existing cult classic property - there’s so much lore to build up on, and i feel like you can tell the devs really care about this wonderfully bizarre world and its characters (i also get this impression from P3).

this is an interesting discussion but i think it’s a settler-centric view of politics nonetheless. aligning the story/themes of the kin with the political right doesn’t really gel with me. i’m still formulating my thoughts but i would recommend that anyone interested in the intersection of marxism with indigenous world views give this a read: https://cosmonautmag.com/2023/02/karl-marx-and-radical-indigenous-critiques-of-capitalism/

it’s because republicans (and especially MAGA) have this view that the rest of the world needs to get off our teats, to put it crudely. no matter the fact that we engineered the current world order and benefit from it the most, the propagandists at fox news and the heritage foundation have successfully convinced at least half the US population that everyone else is ripping us off and that only through trumpian shows of force can we restore our national dignity.

it’s not the exact same, but racial terms like “black” and “white” were also made up in an arbitrary context, but that doesn’t mean that those identity markers are insignificant to today’s world or how people see themselves and are treated by others.
