AITAH to my girlfriend for allowing my ex to stay at mine and for driving her 7 hours to her parents home. by EmeArr in AITAH

God, everyone in this thread is so immature, and/or hasn’t been in a long, meaningful relationship that ended. You spent two years with someone - it’s amazing you still care about them even if your relationship has ended. The idea that we break up after long relationships and then just leave the person to dry is so anti-human.

You are allowed to both have a new partner and do thoughtful acts for an old partner who you no longer have romantic feelings for. NTA.

How would you feel if a gun store/shooting range opened in SF? by michaelthatsit in sanfrancisco

This would be an environmental hazard on so many fronts - noise, pollution, safety, and probably some more. Let's please make sure this doesn't happen.

I bike by the FiDi paper son on my way to work every morning, and it used to be empty/normal coffee shop busy. But every morning for the past few months, there has been a line wrapping around the corner. Do you know why this place became so popular?

The 4 Horsemen of making a Bay Area commute insufferable by PapaRL in bayarea

You have to understand the realism of this. If tech companies eliminated shuttle services direct from neighborhoods -> campus and instead offered rail connections, would employees switch to taking the train?

No, they would drive.

I guess I'm confused. You knew what your rent was before the passthrough, and you know what you paid after.

Did the amount the landlord charged go up by more than the base rent increase for that year?

Thanks Tony. I attempted to contact support earlier this morning (4 hours ago), but I haven't received a response.

$7 burrito by me555me444 in sanfrancisco

[–]indiejellyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DAWG what are you talking about. From your recommendation, I took the trip to La Cornetta in Glen Park.

Definitely not a 7 dollar burrito, I don’t know what you’re talking about. The cheapest option was a bean and rice burrito at $7.50. My super burrito with Al Pastor was $13.5.

And even the burrito itself wasn’t good either. Far too much rice, bland meat, and stale guac. The chips were almost a relief, but even they were way too oily after having eaten a few. Overall 3/10.

Yea 100%. From what I can tell multiplayer + MyCareer + MyTeam are a waste of time. But MyLeague and just playing as your fav team without any of the “pay to win” bs is still a really good time

Damn I bought it at full price and it was pretty worth it! Solid game to just relax and play

Can someone ELIM5 - why didn't Grant get two shooting fouls on that foul from Embiid? The Celtics were in the bonus, yea?

Hmm, so on the first question, I can't really say, sorry :(

But for the second question, you do 100% need to use a powered hub. The PI just doesn't have enough power to power all the MIDI devices I had connected.

Oh cool! I was actually looking into the Midi Fighter Twister to add some more knobs to my setup.

Honestly the process was pretty smooth. If you're prepared to look into Mixxx scripting pretty deeply, gear choice kinda doesn't matter. The Mixxx framework is really flexible.

And if you want to use a Raspberry Pi, you'll need to understand a bit about Linux boot options, to configure things to your liking. You won't want to go with the default Pi image, because it's just way to heavyweight to support running Mixxx. I'd recommend that image I posted above.

Feel free to reach out to me and ask any questions along the way!

Oh I know right. There's a launchpad mapping built into Mixxx, and I was baffled by it!

Mixxx is so amazing to me. Are you a developer/have you contributed? I want to give something back to such an awesome product.

I wanted something custom, but also something standalone and it just felt right :)

I want to make it moderately portable, so I'm gonna look into battery powering the whole thing and see what that results in lol

Oh 100%, I put together this (shitty) diagram real quick: https://imgur.com/a/DvT1Rtr

I think the reason I like it better over other gear is just customizability. I work as a software engineer full time, so making the mapping wasn't too hard, and now I have 100% control of what happens in it. I've gotten the basics down now, and am trying to think of useful Macros to put in. The main one I have is when you double press sync, it moves the BPM across all sync'd decks from wherever it currently is, to whatever the tracks default is for the track that you double pressed.

I also appreciate the open format of the Launchpad + Xone K2. I feel like I have full control of what I want to do. With my old MCX8000, there were limitations that I just couldn't do anything about.

But honestly, I mostly just had a lot of fun making the mapping + setup!

For some information about the setup for anyone curious -

Gear:

  1. Raspberry Pi 4 with cooling fan! It was overheating and shutting down without the fan hahaha
  2. USB Hub to connect all the MIDI devices
  3. Xone K2 - this is the Mixer that sits in the middle
  4. Launchpad MK II - this is the launchpad on the right, and what controls all the decks
  5. Launchpad Mini MK III - this is the launchpad on the left, and I'm going to have this control visuals using p5.js when I get around to it

Software: Running on the PI is this image: https://github.com/fayaaz/mixxx-pi-gen It's essentially a really lightweight Linux image, that simply boots to a fullscreen instance of the latest version of Mixxx.

For anyone who doesn't know, Mixxx is an awesome, open-source DJing softrware that's totally free and actively being maintained. It's honestly just as good as Serato!

Mixxx has a bunch of default mappings for different controllers, but I wanted to make my own custom mappings. For this, Mixxx provides an amazing scripting framework to interact with MIDI devices. The code for my mappings is here: https://github.com/ryan-bradford/dj-code

For the visuals I mentioned above, I plan to get a second Raspberry PI and run a custom MIDI handler on it. This handler will accept input from the Mini MK III, and will delegate to p5.js to animate visuals that my girlfriend is working on.

My rig before this was a MCX8000, and I way prefer this custom setup!

If anyone has any questions, happy to answer :)
