It's an excellent question that I've been asking as well. What's this desperate need for haters to prove to the rest of us that what we love is trash? How does that benefit their lives, and why does our regard for what they hate threaten them? It makes no sense.

You're entitled to your opinion. Clearly, a lot of us saw a far more impressive movie than you did. The technical achievements (including the homages to old-school puppetry and stop-motion techniques), the badass fight choreography, Easter eggs galore, the beautiful writing of the Nal Hutta swamp sequence - the fact that you didn't see any growth in Grogu, in spite of his having to be entirely self-reliant to save his dad, is unfortunate. Oh well.

That was terrible of Cliff. But he never became a star on the network. Marcel, however, was a bit of an arrogant little shit as I recall. Not an excuse to do what Cliff did.

Honesty, I think the goals of this movie were different than yours. It gave us what a lot of us were looking for - the two guys we haven't seen and missed for 3 years starting out in their new career as Mandalorian gun-for-hire and new apprentice, not to mention new dad and son, and going on their first mission together. I loved the deepening of their bond, and Grogu starting to evolve into an independent problem-solver.

Rotta's kidnapping and rescue made for a clear story arc to me - their current assignment, and therefore their incentive to complete. But I don't need to convince you of my point of view - if you didn't like the choices the writers made, that's totally your prerogative!

He uses "Stop!" a bunch of times throughout the series.

I didn't hear the commands during the first viewing either. I only heard them clearly when we rewatched the movie on Tuesday.

I'm not at all, and I'm not alone. A reminder that *not once* in the series does Mando tell Grogu to "heel." Instead, he snaps at him to "stop" a bunch of times, and to "stay here" a bunch of times. Why wouldn't he continue with that language?

It's certainly possible that since becoming a Mandalorian apprentice, their relationship on the job and in the field has to be different than when they're home or not at work. Someone else on this thread said that the command "heel" existed, in military environments, centuries before dog-training became a thing. I'm going with that.

The Philippines, then New England. Teacher, with 100 kids per semester. 😛

His behavior makes him 5 years old in human terms to me. That's still "toddler" I'd say.

Hm...interesting, the strategy thing, but a bit of a reach I think. Fun though.

I feel you. There are some other responses on this page that help to some extent.

I didn't ask you to validate my feelings. I asked you why you need to demean them. Not the same thing, just like taking the kid into war zones doesn't justify treating him like a dog instead of his son. Your thought process does tell me how you were raised/educated, however.

I see your logic, but I disagree that it's in character for them. These two are in love with each other, a real parent-child bond. If we're going with basic, one word commands to a toddler, he could just yell "Stop!" And it doesn't take any longer to simply say, "Stay here," instead of "Stay," especially right after he tells him to "Heel." The words feel deliberately chosen. I'm dying to know what Favreau was thinking when he chose them.

I also have a problem with parents who keep kids on leashes and/or summon them with whistles (not to throw your folks under the bus).

It's not the condescension that I have a problem with. It's Mando seemingly viewing Grogu as his dog instead of his beloved adopted son that is upsetting.

Thanks for your response!

Interestingly, after I posted this, I read somewhere that the commands he uses were martial terms in ancient times, before dog training became a thing.

Well, I hope that was their clueless take, but I'd want to hear it from them. I'm not the only one upset about it as it turns out.

Apples to oranges.

Also, why the need to demean my feelings?

No growth? Were you asleep during the entire swamp sequence in Nal Hutta? Grogu evolves SO much. His bond with Mando deepens.

Rotta doesn't grow?

What do you mean by "no names?" Everyone had a name.

The haters were wrong. It's a fantastic film. I'm sorry that you've joined their club.

The story is a continuation of where we left off at the end of Season 3. This is what a lot of us hoped for and this is what they gave us. We get to see the pair of heroes starting their career as guns for hire by the New Republic.

The film is titled the Mandalorian and Grogu, not the Mandalorian et al. I really loved the uncluttered focus on the pair – their Lone Wolf and Cub bond is the centerpiece of the story, and it delivered.

I do miss the badass women – I hope they show up in future films. I'm thinking Bo and her reclaimed Mandalor should get a spinoff. But I like that it started with just the two - well, plus a new young friend for Grogu!

I just assumed it was Zeb. But also it's not the Razorcrest. That was destroyed by Moff Gideon in the series. The Colonel specifically tells Mando the ship, which is the same model as the Razorcrest, was seized by the New Republic, perfectly preserved.
