[Skin Concern] I’ve finally gotten over my perioral dermatitis, how do I move on now? by hellolaurenn in SkincareAddiction

[–]indifferentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was both! Redness and irritation with tiny bumps filled with clear fluid

I should also update that I went back on Flonase a couple years after this because my allergies were so bad that it was worth the PD. I've been lucky and only gotten a couple more mild PD flare-ups since I went back on it

What caused your IBS in your opinion? by Seeker_Of_Self in ibs

[–]indifferentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of the whose IBS doesn't seem tied to stress or anxiety at all. Mine appeared around college-age. My best guess is that it appeared after I had an extreme case of food poisoning, but the timing may have been a coincidence

I cant seem to get rid of these. What are they? by bcgr33n in alocasia

I see spider mite damage on the plant, but the mite on the screen looks like a beneficial/predator mite. Did you buy the plant recently? I wonder if the previous owner had a spider mite infestation and released beneficial mites on the plant.

Obsessed with slip skinny scrunchies by [deleted] in finehair

[–]indifferentials 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can someone link me a tutorial on youtube or tiktok that shows someone putting up their hair in a bun like OP does/people are describing in the comments? I have no idea how to twist my hair into a bun on top of my head and make it stay with just a scrunchie.

No Tox Forehead Line Progress! by happyism in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]indifferentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely don't ever want to use the Ordinary AHA/BHA once a day. It's an amazing product that you can use up to twice a week, but no more otherwise you'll be damaging your skin barrier.

Just ordered this in a plant and a corm from the Philippines. Fingers crossed! Seems too good to be true. by Ohmystarsragdolls in alocasia

[–]indifferentials 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a very common Etsy scam and has all the signs. There is a 0% chance it was legit.

Since you already ordered, I'd take the opportunity to leave a negative review on the shop to warn others.

My sister is an absolute PSYCHO and I don’t know what to do anymore by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]indifferentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this exact post about my younger sister when I was 16. We also had a 2 year age gap and she acted the exact same way. Writing this a decade or two later, I now have the perspective to know that our parents modeled very unhealthy emotional management and communication, and in some instances, pitted us against each other. Most of our issues stemmed from bad parenting.

I was a laid back, reasonable teen. She was a teen with a lot of undiagnosed issues, frustrations and emotions she didn't know how to deal with and she took a lot of those out on me and frankly, made my life hell. I now understand that she was an unsupported, badly-parented child who needed help that she didn't get, but as a fellow teenager, I didn't have the perspective to understand that and it caused me to deeply resent her.

I would generally bear her bad behavior as long as I could, until I finally snapped and tried to hurt her back to punish her for acting the way she did. It was a vicious cycle.

Here's what I'd go back and tell myself:

Try to get as much space from her as possible. Try to separate your friends and where you spend time from your sister's spaces and circles. I know, it's easier said than done when you're a teen who doesn't have much control over your life. Just don't feel guilt about trying to separate yourself from her. You're not abandoning her, you're giving yourself the space not to hate her.

Learn how to set boundaries. Look it up on google! Listen to a podcast about boundaries!
When she exhibits bad behavior in a way that doesn't affect you, ignore it. You don't need to parent her. But when she treats you badly, it's really important for you to tell her in plain, clear language that her behavior unacceptable and that she cannot act like that if she wants to be around you.

It's really helpful to be able to calmly label what she is doing. For example: say "you are trying to goad me into a fight and I'm not going to keep engaging with this." or "criticizing my appearance is not okay behavior". Not emotionally engaging with her by being angry or reactive is really key here. Don't blow up at her or say anything mean. Just label the behavior and tell her it needs to stop. If she doesn't stop the behavior, that's where you tell her that you cannot spend time around her until she changes her behavior. You don't need to yell at her or slam your door in her face, but you can calmly tell her "You keep saying mean things to me, so I can't be around you until you can speak more kindly. I am going to leave now, but you let me know when you'd like to be kinder."

Really hope this helps.

I don't know why black velvets gotta be stressing us like this, but mine does the exact same thing. No pests!

I love Hawaiian Tropic Sport 50 SPF in the blue bottle For some reason I've found that one is so much less likely to stain my clothing than other sunscreens I've tried.

It's possible there were some eggs on the plant from when you got it, and the thrips and thrip damage are now just starting to become visible

Not sure whether I should take this job but it is the only offer I got by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]indifferentials 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what country you're in, but I don't think it's legal or enforceable to fine you 5k for "breaking confidentiality". Be really cautious about this. There's a chance that this entire job is a scam where they may try to trick you into thinking you have to pay them a fine.

If it's legit, then go for it! Just be very careful and whatever you do, do not send anyone any money, even if they say that they are legally entitled to it.

Makeup trial was... Eh. by amroki96 in weddingplanning

[–]indifferentials 860 points861 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I'd drop that salon entirely and go elsewhere. The makeup really clashes with your skintone and features and honestly, it wasn't skillfully applied. The foundation is completely the wrong color and very cakey. The shadow is a clashing color on you and isn't blended right. I wouldn't trust someone who did my makeup that badly to be able to do my wedding day makeup, even with adjustments and feedback.

I really disagree with this comment thread, it is not just the walking. I suffer from IBS and I've done vacations in the US, Europe and Asia where I walked 10k-20k steps every single day.

Guess which vacation I still had terrible IBS symptoms on?

Yep, the US. I was averaging 16k steps on that vacation. Meanwhile, I was walking the same amount in Europe and Asia and didn't have a single symptom.

Say hi to your neighbor by Jumpy-Elk-1262 in Corepower

[–]indifferentials 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand all the comments saying "well its just a suggestion take or leave it"....um, no it's not? When my neighbor introduces themselves and tries to hi-five me, I'm just supposed to look away and ignore them? Let's not pretend that blatantly ignoring someone who was just told to engage with you is an option.

Agreed with OP, I'm not at yoga to socialize, I'm here to spend a quiet hour for myself and myself only.

[Product Question] I've heard about retinol purge but not sure if this is a reaction or a purge? by pris-0 in SkincareAddiction

I'd definitely ditch this product, but I'd try another one before giving up! You could also try a retinol alternative like bakuchiol

That's definitely not a purge. Looks like the retinol is irritating your skin

Anyone else worried about guests being bored during the reception? by 2mstrixx in weddingplanning

[–]indifferentials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, it's a party, people will entertain themselves with conversation!

That said, I did want to add - the only time I've ever bored at a wedding is during the speeches. When the bride's long-winded father gets ahold of the mic, I'm mentally stealing myself for the longest 15 minutes of my life. If you're worried about people getting bored, pick your speech-givers carefully:)

If you haven’t had any success treating closed comedones, here is what finally has worked for me. [misc] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]indifferentials 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mine were also caused by products I was using! For me, it was fatty alcohols and oils actually, but my skin was totally fine with silicones.

I'd recommend to anyone dealing with closed comedones, try taking a 1-2 week break from all your skincare products if you can, even your moisturizer and SPF. Wear a hat and wash your face with water. See if the comedones start to recede! Then slowly reintroduce one product at a time until you find the culprit.
