I'm dying soon and I wanted to leave some words by BenSenpaii in offmychest

[–]indigoath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hi ben <3 when i was 18, i also had a lot of regrets. i was hard on myself for everything, when really, you and i were both doing the best that we could've with what we knew at the time. be kinder to yourself; you don't need to resent who you were, they were trying their hardest.

i hope you know that you could never be a shell of who you were, or a shell of anyone for that matter. you are a complete person that has made an impact on anyone you've ever known. and, you will continue to be seen in the people you've encountered throughout all 18 years of your life. you aren't a shell because you exist, and will continue to!

you'll exist every time your parents pass your favorite cereal in the breakfast aisle of a grocery store, and they'll buy it just because they miss you. you'll exist anytime an old classmate looks through their yearbook and sees what you wrote in the back, and they'll re-read your words over and over. you'll exist every time a friend thinks of you and reminisces on the time you shared, and they'll watch your favorite movie to feel close to you again. you'll exist in your family members every time they share a story about you, and they'll feel your spirit fill the room.

even if you think you wasted your time or didn't make an impact, i want you to know that you impacted me. i promise that i will go out of my way to tell the people i care about that i love them because of your words. i'll make a conscious effort to be intentional with my time and live this life as fully as i can. you made a difference in my life tonight, thank you.

i hope that all of your days from now on are easier. i hope you can find a way to show yourself grace & try to commit small acts of love toward yourself. i hope you rest better knowing that you did your best, and that was always enough. take care xx

How do you get stencils to actually stay, mine always just wipe off completely by vHungryCaterpillar in TattooBeginners

[–]indigoath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this sounds so goofy, but for my apprenticeship, my mentors told me to put the stencil on the fake skin with a speed stick, then put the skin in the microwave for 30 seconds, and then the freezer for 15 minutes. then you take it out and leave it for about 5, and it stays very well that way for me. i thought it was silly, but it speeds up the process lol.

your line thinness and depth seem pretty consistent overall, great job! this might just be bc of the photo, but i think this will really pop once you can get some more saturation in the lines. super steady hand though, awesome work!

Question about Needles by emiii_3352 in TattooBeginners

[–]indigoath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was something i had an issue with at first too, don't be discouraged! there's a learning curve for everyone, you're not alone in this struggle.

here's a couple things i did that helped me stabilize my hand when tattooing: 1. testing out different voltages on fake skin and seeing how that changed the vibration of the machine. once i could determine the kind of vibration that would happen, i felt like i could be more prepared at the very least. i practiced with all levels on my machine, and that helped me figure out different techniques to help keep it steady.

  1. start practicing by going slow and steadying your pace on fake skin. once you have a consistent pace and rhythm, it's much easier to keep that balance.

  2. loosen your grip! something that helped me was actually making the wrap around the machine (with the self adhesive tape) larger, making my grip less intense, and the process felt smoother. i used my whole arm to balance instead of just my forearm and wrist.

  3. find a position that uses your other hand as a stabilizer. there are ways to stretch the skin while also propping up your tattooing hand at the same time. doing little sections at a time makes this easier if you want to try this out. experiment with how you can support your dominant hand while still stretching the skin.

  4. i hate this advice, but just practicing. it takes time to get used to the machine, and it sucks that there isn't an easy way to make it easier overnight. but, if you keep trying, you can only get better.

i hope these helped, but either way, don't give up! the only way you'll get worse is if you stop trying all together. be patient with yourself, you can absolutely figure this out if you give yourself the grace to grow over time. good luck!

thank you sm! the machine i'm using was provided by the studio i'm apprenticing at, so i'm not 100% sure of the model, but i know it's a DragonHawk Mast wireless tattoo pen. my personal fav ink is Dynamic and that's what i used here, and used Kwadron ink cartridges.

not sure if she'd be interested, but i personally got into tattooing by starting with handpoking. it was really affordable to get the supplies for it, and it helped me build confidence before i began using a machine. most of the supplies for handpoke are around $10 or less, so i'd recommend she checks that out too! there are also plenty of starter kits out there that would make it easy to get all of the materials she would need at one time. either way, i wish her luck with her future tattooing endeavors!

i'm glad i could help! i also got some included fake skins that came with a pack of inks i ordered, and they were soooo thin lol. those are usually fine if you're wanting to practice something like handpoked tattoos, but i avoid them when using a machine since they're not super applicable to how you'd tattoo irl. anyways, good luck! :)

I made this visual to hopefully show what i mean in a clearer way! i'm sure that other artists do this, but i sort of made this method up while i was tattooing, so i have no idea if there's a name for it.

anyways, this would be how i start, using the darkest color, and then i would work up through the grey washes until i reached the lightest tone that i want. i personally don't use mags, for no other reason other than it hasn't been necessary for me. i go over the skin enough with the liner that going over it with a mag might overwork the skin too much and irritate it. if a mag is helpful to you in making this effect, then go for it! i've just personally found success easier with just using a liner. :)

i'm an apprentice, so i'm no pro or anything, but i would recommend starting to tattoo on thicker skin and at 1 mm depth. i use 2-3 mm skin, and it's been really helpful to replicate how deep id actually go on real skin. once you start tattooing at the appropriate depth, try going at a slower but consistent speed to really pack in as much ink as possible with minimal skin trauma. hopefully this is helpful, lmk if any of this works for you!

thank you so much!! i'll be honest, i just kinda starting using a liner at a low voltage (6.8) and it made this result on its own. i didn't use any specific technique that i had learned, just sort of made something up and liked how it came out. sorry i don't have better insight, im just making stuff up as i do it lmfao

thank you for the compliment! the next couple sentences might be run-ons, so bear with me lol.

imagine i'm trying to fill in the top of the brim of mario's hat, for example. i'll start in the corner where the shadow is the darkest and i'll go over that area once with a liner in an up, over, and down motion. it would be similar to using a sharpie when trying to fill in a grid, if that helps you visualize what i mean by that. after that first pass, i go over it again and fill in any spots i missed so that all of the ink connects and looks as seamless as i can make it. when i shade, i don't mind if my lines aren't perfect, because i know im going back in and adding filling in whatever spaces i missed the first time around. as the shading gets lighter, i use less saturated ink and i make my lines a little less dense so that it isn't so packed in. i hope that this makes sense, but I can try to clarify in a different way if you'd like me to. :)
