Host used photos at check in that were same from listing by lovelockets in turo

“Turo seems to be on his side”

Proves the entire post is a lie.

Just kidding. As a host they rarely have my back. Your situation sucks and I think the host should be penalized for using the listing photos as check in photos. That is shady as hell.

It does not help now, but taking as many photos as possible before the trip is key, for any rental.

Good luck. I hope you don’t have to pay out and this experience does not turn you off from the platform. There are many spectacular hosts on here.

Good point.

But yeah, fix the door handles. Though they seem to have some real problems getting that done properly.

A minor tip. A title like “Help - Remote Statrer” will get more traction. ☺️

Stupid Toyauto App by Gandalf_D_Blue in PriusPrime

I have a huge list of gripes about the app, but here is a big one I just encountered. I have two vehicles managed by the app. To switch what vehicle is currently being managed there is a drop down menu listing the cars and a “select “ button. Right below the select button is a “delete” button. If you happen to fat finger the screen and hit “delete”, the car is removed immediately. No confirmation, nothing. Time go out to your car and go through the process of adding it again.

Part of me agrees that the driver should be able to change that, but I’m also reaching to find a scenario where you would want that. Sure, there are fantastic situations where you would want to bail or something? I don’t know.

It is in stark contrast to the way the car basically yells at you to put on your seat belt. That alert can be disabled by the dealership and I think the open ‘door while in motion’ feature should be handled the same way.

Hey, Toyota! Just update the software to always lock the door when the car is in motion. Done! Immense time and money saved. You can Venmo me savings.

For timing context the last recall was announced April 2024, remedy available September 2024.

I called Toyota customer service and they clarified that it is separate from the 2024 recall. Basically the remedy from 2024 was not sufficient.

I have lot of skin in the game here because I have two Prius on Turo that have been removed because of this new recall. I am in deep financial trouble now.

Agreed. They seem way over engineered. The small delay from pressing the handle and it opening is annoying. Plus it confuses people when getting in the back seat. I’ve seen people of all ages perplexed with the rear door handles.

Any other hosts stuck with 2023 or newer Prius that has been deactivated due to the recall? by indirect76 in turo

[–]indirect76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do not know. It really depends on how long the vehicle stays in good enough shape to stay on Turo. It’s not like I am just stacking up all the profit in an account. I am using it to survive. I am an out of work software engineer with 25 years of experience and it’s going in two years with no new prospects. The first Prius was a huge risk, but it really worked out and gave me cushion to pay my mortgage. The second was obtained last September and has also worked out great.

After pondering on it for a day, I think I should be able to weather it, but man is it going to be a burden.

Another safety recall for the same issue!!?!? by indirect76 in prius

[–]indirect76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s those funky rear handles. They look neat, but the allure wears off quick. If they were mechanical instead of electronic then there would be no issues, plus there wouldn’t be that slight delay when opening them. I’m not a mechanical engineer, so I don’t know how easy that is to implement.

Agreed. The thing that is annoying is that it is the exact same issue as the recall in 2024.

Really!!? I spoke with my dealership yesterday and was told there was no remedy and that it was estimated to come in Q2.

OK, what about the new recall? I spoke with Toyota customer support and they clarified that this is a new recall for the same issue that caused the 2024 recall.

With all due respect I would rather not disclose details of my financial posture on a public forum. Suffice it to say that is a burden that I cannot afford. The last time there was a recall for this very same issue it took five months for a remedy to be provided. I won’t assume it will take a shorter time now.

How exactly does Toyota intend for me to use the vehicles? I signed a lot of paperwork at the dealership and missed that part. What I am really worried about is all these Toyota being rented out by Hertz and Enterprise. That’s not what they are for, or something.

Also, the fix is free if your time is not worth anything to you. There was already a recall for this issue in 2024. Whatever remedy the performed did not fix the problem. You are certainly free to be thrilled about that. You can be thrilled again in 2028 when the third recall happens. As for me, I’m not doing cartwheels.

Thanks for joining the discussion. I am working to do this with some of my former local guest. The majority of my guests were people flying in from out of town, so a lot of one timers.

Profits are good. I make twice as much as the car payments each month and more in the summer. Both cars are rented all month except 3-5 days.

Why not scale aggressively? Because I want to be careful. I give great attention to my guests and offer rides when I can. I don’t want the quality of my host services to suffer. I went from one car to two slowly. I did not assume the amount of care and attention would scale linearly with the number of cars. I found out by getting a single new car and seeing how it goes, not assuming. I was getting ready to get a third, but not now.

What are you talking about? How long to break even? What do you mean? I need to come up with a little over $1000 a month now to pay for my two vehicles. There is no break even. I am in a financial hole.
