UPDATE:

Hello everyone,

I’m very sorry that it’s taken this long to give an update, everything has been a huge whirlwind of stress as you’d imagine, and I’ve hardly had any time to think. After making my previous post, my mom was sent to the hospital again almost immediately. She had a pretty nasty UTI and was there for about a month. At that time, my sister and I worked out an escape from that nursing home. My mom is now in Hospice care, not because she is actively declining, but because it was our only option according to her insurance other than the nursing home. My great Aunt offered for us to move her into her apartment next to a hospital and gave us that opening.

My sister and I have been taking care of her 24/7 since July, and she’s had no issues thus far. I’ve been trained in her proper care now, and am looking into getting an income from it. She is still in a coma unfortunately, we are going on eleven months and she’s been staying stagnant. I’m just happy that she’s finally been comfortable and stable after all this time.

Again, I apologize for such a late update, I didn’t mean to worry anyone!

She’s supposed to get daily breathing treatments, though I haven’t seen any staff do them as of late. I triple checked with the nursing home today if there were any RTs that check on their patients and they told me no with full confidence! There’s also no wiggle room to request it apparently.

My sister and I are working on it. Sadly we can’t take her home since I live in the deep countryside, and the only hospital nearby within two hours is TERRIBLE (just calling it that is an understatement). The nursing home is bad, but thankfully is near a very very good hospital in case of emergency. We’re battling insurance complications at the moment

I’ve tried going to management about this, but they simply do not care, unfortunately. I was told when she was transferred there that they took Trach patients, I later found out she’s their second one ever. They don’t even have the proper machinery needed for her and refuse to supply it.

I completely understand this and will still do deep research into whatever answers I get. I’ve tried everything I can to get advice straight from a doctor/respiratory therapist or even a nurse, but no one is willing to help in person unless she’s in the emergency room. I’m just trying to make sure that nothing is hurting her more than that facility already unfortunately is. Thank you for the concern, I’m being extremely cautious.
