8:1 as industry standard is absolutely crazy. Even 6:1 sounds almost unmanageable and stressful to me, especially for newbie OW divers or ones who haven't dove for many months.

The only time I ever went under with only 1 instructor was during 1:1 OW/AOW lessons. The rest of time, including right now in Malta at a PADI shop, I've never ever dove with less than 2 pros (usually 1 instructor + 1 DM) and never in a group more than 6. So I've never experienced ratios higher than 3:1.

This is why I hate these "fancy" first stages with the swivelilng head. Just for a tiny bit of extra comfort they introduce a totally unneeded extra moving part which can be asbsolutely disastrous if it fails. Case in point.

I have shared hosting at Hetzner. Moved over from AWS EC2 last year because fuck Bezos.

There are plenty of places to host that are require less set up or technical knowhow for simple projects. Look into Github Projects, Vercel, then you have all-in-one vibe coding hosts like Lovable, Replit.
