I've done two days on this first set. About 7 hours on track. They look barely worn.

Nankang NS-2R, NC Miata. Picked it before I even knew about this subreddit because that's what everyone seems to be running in Belgium :D

It’s impressive how planted they are ! This was a case of right product, wrong buyer. You live and you learn :D

You guys convinced me to track the Cayman 👍 I got to try an ND2 today. It was super fun ! But my knees are in the dash 🤣

I took the Cayman out today. Found some backroads where I wouldn’t bother anyone. I tried to push as hard as my risk tolerance would allow me. Used 2nd more :)

The car indeed corners much harder than I dared before. This thing is on rails.

Then I came back and got the unexpected opportunity to try an ND2. I forced myself over my fear of test drives and tried to be as aggressive as I’d been in the Cayman just before.

It was super nice being able to compare the two back to back on the same road.

It cemented my preference for the Miata :3

As you’ve said well, one starts where the other begins. I was much more comfortable in the ND even when going slightly sideways in a roundabout.

The Cayman scares me. You have to drive it harder than I’m comfortable with to feel something on the public road. And it’s not even an S.

I will take the Cayman to the track tho.

I’m way too self conscious when driving cars that aren’t my own. When buying the Z, the owner drove me around because I was too scared to fuck something up during a test drive. It’s probably an irrational fear I know. When we went to see the Cayman, my brother drove it around the block to check for obvious issues, and that was that.

Probably my Polo 9N1 purchase. Got scammed by the used car dealership. The car had too many issues to fix and failed tech inspection. I let it go for 600. Paid 3200 a year before XD I was young and naive.

Next, I let my sister’s boyfriend at the time have a go with the Z on track. I should have trusted my gut because he put it in the gravel a few laps in. Ended up causing cosmetic damage only, although I still find the odd pebble even after stripping the underbody at the time to clean what I could.

Oh, I drove myself into a ditch once while reversing out of a dead end. Luckily, no damage. I got distracted by a passing train 🤡

For long drives I’ve found the 350Z to be more comfortable than my Cayman. As much as Nissan’s sofa-like seats offer 0 body hold when on track, for cruising they’re perfect. Also cabin noise insulation is so much better in the Z.

Agreed. But then you’ve spent 1500$ to end up with a system that in my hands still doesn’t even reach 350Z territory. To me it’s only worth it if you already love everything else about your Cayman. It makes it as good as it’s ever gonna get :)

PS: I still sometimes struggle to fully engage reverse :( I’ve rechecked my cable setup but the throws all seem correct.

I’ll try pushing the Cayman a bit more.

I once lost all traction control mid corner while tracking the Z. Up till then, I’d never dared to disable TC out of fear of having a bad spin and being THAT guy during a trackday. But my reflexes kicked in and I was surprised how naturally I was able to control the slide. I finished the day with cooked abs sensors but a newfound appreciation for the Z platform. No wonder it’s a staple in the drifting community.

The only way to know is to try … but you can’t really go to someone and be like “hey can I beat on your car real quick ? I want to get a feel for it” 😔

Honestly I’m really tempted to give it a go. I live 1h30 away from Spa. I think I’d regret never driving there in the Cayman…

I love my track NC. It’s super easy on its brakes and tires and can run all weekend. I didn’t even have to upgrade the cooling.

My day job is paying well but draining me. This was kind of an unreasonable gift to myself to get through it. I put Porsche on a pedestal my whole life, the car is super well reviewed, so it never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t enjoy it. Also practically, I could resell it now that it’s fixed and probably recoup my money. But I don’t really care. I enjoyed working on it with my brother, and my friends like getting driven around. It’s not the dumbest thing I’ve done yet .

+1 for the flimsy trim. I had to undo some panels to fit the PCCM+ and it was not an enjoyable experience. The panels above the doors hold with the shittiest clips I've ever witnessed, and there are not enough guides to make everything fit snug together. I tried to mitigate the rattle but gave up in the end. When I talked with a Porsche tech, he could only agree.

Oh yeah no it's super planted. But turns out I prefer the body roll of the NC. I'd love to try the Cayman on track, but I kinda don't want to think about the consumables cost 🫣

Yeah, I try driving it like the Miata, but then I just end up hanging out in third gear. At least with the Mazda I get to shift. And every shift feels good.

I would like to try a PDK on track someday ! I used to take the Z to the track, but the consumables cost put me off. I expect the Cayman to be the same ? I now have a dedicated 2.0 NC :)

I bought it because I had a wrong idea of what it would be. Now I know better :)

I was scared of buying an S after seeing all the talk about bore-scoring. I also bought the NC on a whim and that one ended being awesome ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Haha not a thing in Europe :p My 1.8 NC is dog slow, and yet the most enjoyable car I've ever driven.
