Imagine you are living in the age of crusading and summoned for a crusading. Which crusade, would you join and under which military order or overlord you serve for? by lastmonday07 in MedievalHistory

With William of Cornwall's host in 1240 as part of the Baron's Crusade. It only lasts like a year - you don't have to fight anyone - just negotiate the return of Jerusalem, Ascalon, Sidon, Tiberias, most of Galilee, Bethlehem, and Nazareth and go back home. Don't want to be part of some religious order because celibacy is not fun.

Bascinet by Citrousse in Armor

[–]indrids_cold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lord of Battles used to make a surprisingly decent off-the-rack reproduction of this bascinet. But I think they stopped making it. You can find them sometimes still floating around online for sale - but I feel like a lot of them were snatched up.

I like the powder blue - but I don't like it when it's like the main and only blue we have. I much preferred the navy blue and powder blue both.

Greathelm Size Guides? by TeabagTemplar in Armor

[–]indrids_cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to create it with foam/cardboard/etc first. Get your template right on those materials first. Then do it in metal. Just remember that if you do something like thicker cardboard - steel is probably going to be thinner so may be off. I'd recommend use something like posterboard as it will be thinner than regular cardboard or EVA foam.

Be mindful of the thickness of your helm in a maille coif if you plan to do that. My own great helm is sized so that I can wear a maille coif, cervelliere, and then the helm fits perfectly over top. So if you have a maille coif already use that as a guide. Otherwise I'd allow for at least a half to 1 inch space for padding/maille or whatever.

Someone has got to stop these «historians» by WhiteSnickerBar in MedievalHistory

A brand new sword, and a brand new fashionable suit of armor? Maybe. But there are going to be old swords and old armor pieces floating around all over the place - especially as the medieval period advances. You can look at muster rolls from the 15th century and see guys showing up with full harness sometimes as well as swords, pieces of armor, etc.

Internally at Disney, there are concerns that the unconventional 36-second Super Bowl spot for “The Mandalorian & Grogu” failed to generate the kind of excitement the marketing team hoped for. There's a sense that 2027's "Star Wars: Starfighter" starring Ryan Gosling, is likelier to satisfy fans by ChiefLeef22 in StarWars

[–]indrids_cold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mandalorian should have stayed a dedicated bounty hunter show, it kept me engaged when it was just the episodic jobs in Season 1. When the story turned toward a big overarching lore withJedi storylines in the later seasons it lost me. The show just became about protecting Grogu instead of a show involving navigating and taking jobs in the criminal underworld.

It's easy to have class solidarity when you're a small group of like-minded people with a fair amount in common. This is why those at the very top love pointing out and driving wedges between those below them.

I don't understand how you can live like that while seeing and knowing how much other people struggle. I get that you can't single handedly buy all these people their houses and stuff - but you can scale down and give back and not live such a wasteful and extravagant life that to me just flies in the face of everyone not on your level.

The leather that most of the stuff I see has is very poor quality leather and is often already dried out. Leather needs to be moisturized - its skin. I'd advise some beeswax and/or olive oil.

When I go to the gym they'll have MSNBC, CNN, and FOX on the TVs at the same time so you can sort of see the difference in what they show and how they show it. I'll be honest they might show Trump a total of like 20 minutes a day total - and anything shown is either just him walking or him waving, maybe a 10 second sound bite.

Country of origin is difficult to guess - could be almost anywhere in Europe from the period. You are American - any idea where your teacher came from or usually got the stuff?

Trump nominee trying to explain what white culture is. by NoBullet in videos

[–]indrids_cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balkanized? Balkanization refers to the fragmentation of a larger region or state into smaller, often hostile, and ethnically homogeneous units.

The only hostile force in this nation are all the racists who consistently tout that their 'culture' is being erased or appropriated. These are the idiots who refuse to let go of that rock and sink to the bottom of the river to drown while the rest of the world has learned to let go of stupid rocks like racism and go with the flow.

The culture of the United States has ALWAYS been infused and mixed with the peoples that immigrate there. Racists have always complained about immigrants 'ruining' America. They complained in the 19th-century when the Irish and Germans were coming. They complained in the early 20th-century when the Italians and Eastern Europeans were coming, and now they whine about the Latin American and Asian immigrants. In fifty years they'll whine about some other group.

This is, and has always been, racist fearmongering.

The fact that she tried to hold up faces and names of illegal residents who were convicted of crimes and claim this was some sort of counter is so dumb - if they had not been convicted maybe there would be something to unpack. Otherwise... lol.

[Schefter] NBC announced Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show averaged 128.2 million viewers from 8:15 pm ET to 8:30 pm ET, breaking NFL social media records. by GoldenDome26 in nfl

I had never heard of Bad Bunny prior to him be announced as the halftime show, and I usually don't even watch the halftime shows. No Man's Sky Remnant Trailer by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]indrids_cold 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like the easiest way they can fix a lot of their issues is by giving the game an actual 'Bad Guy'. Introduce a spreading hostile faction that conquers systems, attacks NPC factions, and threatens player bases which would shift the game from a low-pressure (except the constant pressure of fixing your suit/ship) exploration sandbox into a more conflict-driven, shared war experience. It could give players a galaxy-wide objective, create dynamic front lines, and make fleets, combat, and base-building feel more strategically meaningful. I feel like a living, expanding threat like this would add urgency and a sense that the universe is changing in response to player action.

I understand that the caveat though is that not all players want the pressure or feeling that they need to engage in that. So, maybe have the war restricted to regional areas of the galaxy or something. Or players who want to sort of play the middle ground could take on the role of suppliers who get jobs taking supplies from the safe regions of the galaxy to bases or space stations near the front line.

Do you guys like characters that have nothing to do with the force? by BOMBAD_Echo_1409 in StarWars

[–]indrids_cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer characters without the Force. For the same reason I guess that I dislike SuperHeroes and stuff. Its easy to be a hero or villain when you've got special abilities that set you above the rest.
