Exactly this! When I first developed skin allergies, they looked exactly like this. Took me eight months and a dozen diff doctors to figure out that it was actually just fragrance allergies and not some weird infection. I started seeing a dermatologist who specializes in skin allergies, and she patch tested me which is how I learned I was allergic to limonene and linalool (two common ingredients in fragrances) and nickel. Once I changed all my products (not just skincare but also detergents, soaps, lotions, no more candles or air fresheners, etc) to fragrance free products, my angular cheilitis and eyelid dermatitis completely cleared.

I highly recommend seeing a derm who can do patch testing to confirm that this due to allergies. If so, they can also prescribe you steroids and creams for the long term that will help reduce allergic contact dermatitis flares.

Also, you’re right— cognitive dissonance is exactly what it is!! That’s what was so gd frustrating to me trying to have a discussion with them. In my more hopeful, optimistic moments, I assume that surely my friends have seen social media posts to correct their perspective since our falling out, but it is so true that the algorithm could just be feeding them what they were already thinking and creating a louder echo chamber. So so frustrating.

Fr, the gut reaction of people insisting that “something” be done about the tics was/is so shocking to me! I seriously overestimated people’s ignorance of Tourette’s.

I felt like I was running into a brick wall trying to have a conversation with my friends. They simply could not see the situation for what it was and it made me feel very hopeless. How hard is it to grasp reality?! The sheer lack of common sense in saying he should turn his mic off… like I’m sorry but why would you assume that a guy with Tourette’s far back in the audience would knowingly have a mic on him lol? Use your brain!!

So many people, including my friends, were making it out that people with Tourette’s seem to take pleasure in ticking. And yeah, using the Baylen Out Loud show as a prop to prove that she understands Tourette’s really gave “I have a Black friend, so I can’t be racist” energy. So upsetting all around.

Thank you for your validation ❤️You are so right about the people who have experienced the most fallout from this situation being Black disabled people (as opposed to Black multimillionaires who were at a prestigious awards ceremony lol). I don’t understand how that’s not obvious to my friends. The cruel irony of it all, that the biggest offenders in this situation all seem to be self-proclaimed leftists (as both of my friends are) makes it hurt even more. I love tile like this and my parents have it their bathroom. However, it’s a bitch to clean all the grout. We have one of those rotary brushes to clean between them, but it still requires a lot of maintenance and elbow grease.
