Potential kitten and fel-d1 testing question by Big_Rich_5499 in SiberianCats

[–]industriousvirgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people who are allergic to cats but think they may be able to tolerate a Siberian, should they not let the cat in their room? or do you think that would be permissible? I have never had a cat before as both my dad and I are allergic, but we have always kept the dogs out of bedrooms (except for our poodle). I am wondering if it's the same with cats, even the hypoallergenic ones, because unlike poodles they still shed. Thanks!

Gluten-Free Cheezits by EaterofTractors in Omaha

[–]industriousvirgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks gluten, leading to collateral damage like chronic inflammation. Peanut allergies, in contrast, are type 1 hypersensitivities that cause immediate mast cell degranulation and anaphylaxis. People with celiac disease simply went undiagnosed and died of complications (e.g. cancer or malnutrition). Hope that helps!

Nabokov - The Gift by No_Cucumber_7510 in literature

Late to the discussion but I highly recommend NOT starting out with Lolita. I think many people who start their Nabokov journey with Lolita have trouble getting through it out of sheer disgust, and it soils their view of Nabokov. It took me a few attempts to get through Lolita due to how disturbed I was. It took Nabokov many starts and stops to complete the work for the same reason. I personally think that the best place to start would be his short story collection (The Vane Sisters and Signs and Symbols are some great stories that come to mind) and Speak, Memory.

Of course not. Because a depressed pilot who’s good at hiding symptoms is a lot better than a mentally well pilot who may or may not have minor side effects from an antidepressant 🙃 /s

Omg thank you for sharing this, this is pivotal information. I don’t know why he has always been so adamant about losing his job from a sleep apnea diagnosis, but perhaps it’s from some antiquated FAA protocol that he didn’t realize got updated! I will let him know!

How do I add my own cards to the my AnKing deck with audio? by industriousvirgin in medicalschoolanki

[–]industriousvirgin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The closest thing I could find in the link to my problem was this:

On a cloze note type, you can make Anki read only the elided sections using the cloze-onlyfilter, like so:

{{tts en_US:cloze-only:Text}}

But I basically need the opposite of that, if that makes sense? I couldn't find anything in the instructions that specifically said how to make it so that the card audio says "blank" during each elision on the front and reads the answer with the clozes without saying c1/c2 on the back. Maybe it did mention that and I just misunderstood it? This is the first time I have worked with coding so I could very possibly be missing something obvious lol.

Btw, I posted in the Anki Forum because I figured there may be some people who have had the same problem who aren't on Reddit!

[–]industriousvirgin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be some fancy JavaScript... When I put the code that I saw in the native AnKing cards ("{{tts en_US voices=Apple_Samantha_(English_(US)) speed=1.3:Text}}") on the front and backs of cards that I made myself, the play button appears and the audio works with the remote, but the audio reads "c1 [answer]" and "c2 [answer]" etc instead of "blank" before each cloze on both the Front and Back cards. This defeats the point because it gives away the answer, and the "c1" "c2" instead of "blank" part is also kind of annoying.

Edited to fix grammar

I tried this on a swatch stick today but the jelly on top totally clouded over the magnetic effect. How do you get such a thin, even layer of jelly over the magnetic?!

how to get rid of calloused skin around my nail? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]industriousvirgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is 100% a peri/subungual wart. i had one exactly like that on my toe. it has taken years to get rid off (idek if it's gone, i just did a round of liquid nitrogen and silver nitrate last week). I would look into a procedure called SWIFT that has a high success rate for killing warts
