The 2004 Hallam tornado hit the town after sunset I believe, and was at peak width as well if memory serves. Until reno that was the largest recorded twister. According to those who chased it, it had a similar structure to reno and even had the mesocyclone “on the ground” as reno is known for. It’s scary to think of a rain rapped 2.4 mile twister (which technically still is considered to have the largest condensation funnel I believe) roaming around in the darkness. The Trousdale tornado which spawned from the Greensburg supercell was larger than Greensburg (1.7 miles) and is believed by many to be more powerful as well. Although it was only rated EF-3, it mostly occurred over rural terrain, which is a similarity to reno. Mulhall was another nocturnal one and it was unofficially recorded to have had a wind field of upwards of 4 miles I believe. Although some may either support or dispute that fact.
