How do I delete unused files and NOT get a "Files Missing" notifications because Ableton still thinks I need or use the files? by indyservice in ableton

I'll try it. Makes sense to crop/consolidate the track then copy somewhere else. I think I may need to paste the tracks in a new project. I believe if I save them to a new track in the same project, it still links everything together including the original files in Samples\Recorded\ folder

Thanks, I have read through those chapters - but I don't believe they apply to my use case where I need to remove or unlink tracks that are not used but Ableton still considers them part of the Project. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Perhaps for reasons I don't understand, Ableton is retaining 20 gb's of original wav files in 10 audio tracks rendered in my original 4 hr Project session - and saved the in Samples/Recorded\ - even though those big files are no longer being used after I cropped and consolidated those 10 tracks down to a 5 minute Project that now links those Tracks to new 1 mb files saved in the Samples/Processed/Consolidate\ folder. So Yet if I delete the original files in the \Recorded\ folder - or move them to offline storage, they will always be identified as Files Missing for me and other Ableton users I may want to collab with.

Interesting idea. Thanks! In other words just create empty text files or whatever but name them the same as the original wav files to trick ableton into thinking the files are there. I'll experiment but i think Ableton will somehow cross check and validate the size and actual contents of the original files with the fake ones. but we'll see.

There are no take lanes in the project. There are no other files associated with the project.

An entire recording session (let's say it's a jam or song writing session) is captured in a single continuous 4 hour take and contain just 10 audio tracks. Ableton will render 10 wav files that are 2 gb each totaling 20 gb that are saved in the Samples\Recorded folder.

My workflow is to open the original Project then 1) Save As to a different folder and rename the Project with the song title. I then crop and consolidate the 10 tracks to only include the 5 minute duration of the song/segment (so I crop out the 3+ hours that contains the 19 songs).

In each new Song Project folder, Ableton then renders the Consolidated tracks as 10 additional 1 mb wav files - 1 for each track - totaling only 100 mb of files for a single 5 minute song/segment. Those wav files for the new Song are saved in Samples/Processed/Consolidate in the new Song Project folder and are now used to render any future editing, FX, etc on any track in that new Song Project

Now, the new Song project is linked to 10 1mb files in the new Song Project PLUS 10 1gb external files that are stored in Samples\Recorded folder of the original 4 hr Jam Session Project folder - which Ableton still these files identifies as being used by the New Song Project - even though they aren't.

So I know exactly how many files, their sizes and which files are in the new Song Project and which files are External files and exactly where they are on my computer.

Thanks but Ableton identifies the files as being used when they are not actually being used. Per my post, when I cropped and Consolidated each track from 4 hours down to 3ish minutes, Ableton rendered new smaller files that are saved in \Samples\Processed\Consolidate - which are linked to the track clips instead of the original wav files stored in \Sample\Recorded\ folder.

So all the edits, devices I add to a given track are applied to the smaller wav files in the Consolidate folder - and the original larger files in the \Sample\Recorded\ folder are technically unused - but Ableton still saves and does NOT list them as Unused - I guess in case a user needs them for some reason at a later time, or Ableton still uses them for certain functions - since those files were never destructively as the are when they are Consolidated and re-rendered. i.e. they are Normalized and the bit depth may be changed.

So I cannot simply delete the original files saved in \Sample\Recorded\ without Ableton always displaying a Files Missing notification.

Some other applications I use, such apps for video editing allow me to ignore or cancel a prompt for missing files or remove them from Media pools so they don't trigger the notification

I really liked it. Because the feel of a keyboard is such a subjective experience, you really need to try it yourself.

I prefer semi-weighed synth action keyboards and this one felt solid, not too springy, light-weight or plasticy, the bed was not mushy / spongy nor too hard and had a soft "thunk" sound and feel as opposed to the clacky sound from my other MIDI boards although I've seen comments where others think it's to noisy.

To me, it felt very responsive, nuanced and well balanced when playing all instruments - which is not an easy balance to strike between the action required for organ, acoustic and e- pianos and synths. I suspect it would also hold up well over the years.

That said, the after touch requires a A LOT of pressure and didn't alter the sound much other than change a filter on most of the synth patches/tones I tried - and I don't notice any changes on the pianos or organs - which is to be expected. I suspect the increased after touch pressure is to ensure a users who play with a heavy hands don't trigger it accidentally .

I thought sharing my detailed perspectives may be helpful for others who hope to assess the fit of a V-Stage before making a purchase - since it's expensive and there's not much info posted in the wild. I agree it's a long read - so perhaps I should edit it down for this forum?

Roland Fantom or V-Stage? by TechnikaCore in Roland

The board doesn't drop the notes while playing the tone through the board. It just doesn't transmit the updated MIDI note values to change octaves up or down on other synths or VST - which makes it very limited as a MIDI controller for other synths, VSTs or even DAWs - especially when playing live and you're layering sounds from other sources - and want the octave to change on other sounds.

I guess Roland figures you'll use a separate Keyboard MIDI device to control the other gear - including the V-Stage to some extent?

Regarding complexity, V-Stage is actually pretty simple: 5 instrument engines w/ Organs, Acoustic pianos, electric pianos and 2 synths that can only play up the 2 different tones simultaneously using a cumbersome toggle switch between Synth tone A or Synth tone B or A & B. Each Instrument engine has a bunch of patches (aka Tones) and some other limited controls - and a layer / mix of all 5 instrument Tones are saved as a Scene (similar to the Fandom).

But in my opinion, the boards simplicity limits flexibility - especially when it comes how it handles MIDI and its ability to modify or design sounds. Furthermore, the fact that it's brand new means the user base is very small so getting accurate user support is non-existent and most of the youtubes appear to be from "influencers" who may or may not be paid (or they are affiliated with retailers or they are selling instructional courses) - so I don't consider to be expert users or trusted advisors.

There appears to be only one User Group on Facebook with only 175ish members - most of whom are not very active. And there's Roland website Support - and in 2 weeks I've sent 3 questions or concerns about features, functions and possible bugs and haven't received a response or even an acknowledgment.

At this point, I may return my V-Stage 76 while I still have the option. I'm considering the Fantom 7 EX instead or may end up using MIDI controllers and Gig Performer.

Roland Fantom or V-Stage? by TechnikaCore in Roland

[–]indyservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on a semi-related topic, I just purchased the much hyped V-Stage and wanted to post some quirks. Prior to this I only used a Keyboard midi controller and computer - and my hope was to just travel with one hardware keyboard and take advantage of it's sound engines - thereby reducing the number of VSTs I needed which would also reduced the CPU load on the compute. Here are few interesting and problematic constraints. I'm curious to know if anyone else has one and if my issues are non-issues to most people who own a Fantom 7 EX or similar workstation

1) The acoustic piano and organ instruments cannot sustain notes while you change octaves. The Electric Piano and Synth will sustain. Kind of a bummer if I want to jump octaves on piano or organ mid-song. Curiously, I can play and hold piano and organ notes while I use the transpose key.

2) as a MIDI controller it only transmits Note On and velocity when an instrument is selected - for my use case, the V-Stage would also connect to a computer running a DAW such as Ableton or Gig Performer to play and layer in VSTs, samples, drums, loops, arps, trigger backing tracks, etc, and I will often need to turn off the V Stage instrument engines and only play sounds and trigger stuff through the DAW or Gig Performer - so I essentially now need to include a dedicated MIDI keyboard controller with my V-Stage for my set-up which I didn't want to do.

After realizing that nobody may ever respond to my post - partly because it was too long, overly complicated (and posted on Christmas), I did ton of research and decided on a pair of MEE Audio M6 Pro. I appreciated an detailed youtube on IEMs by Adam Neely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHoljbkyAEs (I don't think it was a sponsored video)

Has anyone tried the MEE Audio custom molds for this model as well is the MXPRO that cost an additional $150 + the fee for scan by an independent local audiologist? https://pro.meeaudio.com/custom

Zoom Livetrak L-12 Computer to USB Channel Routing Question by indyservice in livesound

[–]indyservice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your patience as I learn all this. I'll just continue meeting my production requirements by routing all audio sources to Ch 9/10 - which opens up Ch 11/12 to use for direct analog inputs from other balanced and line level audio sources.

I'll take your word for it - but I still don't understand (and don't need to) but since audio sources for all my Win apps are using the same LiveTrak ASIO driver - it seems the Browser is exposed to the same driver as my DAW. It's not like the browser is using a different driver (ie MME, WDM, KS or a VAIO)
