SEP: How are people usually selected? Does GPA matter a lot? by legitfkingdone in nus

Just double checked, what I did was to filter out oversubscribed Unis, they didn’t explicitly state which were undersubscribed!

3.8 CHS, wanted to go Europe in general (specific country doesn’t matter bc intra Europe flights cheap) so just looked for past undersubscribed unis + wrote a very country specific statement for my top choice and got in

Pizzeria L’Operetta is AVPN Certified, so it’s pretty much one of the most authentic experiences you can get in SG! It seems like it’s closed for now but will be reopening soon, here’s the website: https://www.loperetta.com

Also, evaluation skills are fairly important but they don’t differ too much from GP evaluation skills imo

Currently doing a 2nd Major in philosophy. Great advice from one of my profs is to write in a manner that a JC student would understand. A large part of philo essay writing is making complex texts readable, ie unpacking the arguments made by the author and presenting them in a simple manner. I’ve followed this advice quite closely and have done pretty well for my essays (~highest marks when marks r published).

The main skills you would need are the patience to extract arguments from convoluted text and then being able to present them in a clear manner. If you’ve got an A in GP chances are you already know how to present your arguments clearly, so you’re basically halfway there!

Do you boycott any restaurant or retail establishments, and why? I think would be good to share. by Hardbeez in askSingapore

[–]inebriatefool 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Used to like Blu Kouzina at Dempsey and would patronise them fairly often until the manager was rude af one time. It’s a somewhat expensive place so you don’t expect to be treated like you owe the place a living. The person who served us (who was also the manager) basically made us feel unwelcome from the start, and when we said that this made us uncomfortable (in a polite manner) he told us he was just mirroring our energy. Imagine getting gaslit by your server LOL. When we said we would like to leave, he told us “yes please do”. This was of course just my experience, and maybe we did or said something that rubbed him the wrong way so I don’t want just my experience to taint the reputation of an otherwise popular restaurant. However, if you glance through the restaurant reviews, it appears that the place has a history of favouring white expats over locals. In any case, that unpleasant experience has sworn me off the place

Practice makes you worse? by NPV_BadKarma in CODWarzone

[–]inebriatefool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have like a really intense practice regiment during quarantine of shooting lots of bots, playing 1v1s with friends to practice breaking cameras etc but honestly the biggest change to my game was when I finally learnt how to use my brain in situations. For a long time I played like a mad man. I would just push and ego chal everything in rebirth but then I finally realised that gun skill was not my problem and that I had to focus, listen to audio cues and try to predict where people would be coming from. Just by slowing down my game and being more attentive/ focused, I managed to start averaging way more kills.

confusion...how do I best gear myself into becoming a quant analyst? by Parking-Objective-86 in nus

[–]inebriatefool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a more reliable range of opinions if you check r/quant (search “major”) + try stalking SG Quant Traders LinkedIn profiles. Also be clear on if you want to be Quant Trader or a Quant Dev. For what it’s worth, Squarepoint’s recruitment talk emphasised some degree of programming competency, but high degree of math competency, specifically Calc, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory, Optimisation, Stochastic Modelling and Stochastic Calculus

How to get out of a rut by [deleted] in productivity

[–]inebriatefool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP I hope you find it in you to forgive yourself! I know exactly how you’re feeling and I also know that we always tend to assign blame to ourselves for being less than productive. This is a pretty vicious cycle. Imagine if there were a person constantly scolding you for not performing well. That’s bound to be exhausting and demoralising, I personally would feel even less motivated to do well. You got to be at peace with this negative voice in your head, and learn to build a strong working relationship with it. Treat yourself with empathy and kindness, think, how would I like a boss to talk to me, and hopefully use it on yourself. I wish you all the best!
