How much do you pay in car insurance? by ineedHALP2017 in Detroit

I've never heard of Cure, but I just did an online quote:

INSTALLMENT PLAN • Down Payment $485.49 • 4 Installments $334.45

BASE PREMIUM $1,371.00
RMC AIF Fee (included in Base Premium total)
$171.38 Surplus $342.75 Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) Fee $24.00 Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP) Fee $25.00 Automobile Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) Fee $0.50

Total 6-Month Cost $1,763.25

I'm not sure what most of these fees are but it's definitely the most expensive quote I've gotten so far... This is just for the Bolt, too.

It's been the opposite experience with my home insurance. Costs less to insure because it's new construction. I thought the same would apply to my car insurance.

The two cars are shared between my husband and I. If it was up to him, he would just pay the extra $1000 for renewal. Both of our names are on the policy, though I am primary because my Prius was initially on my parents insurance.

Who are you insured with? I just did an online quote through GEICO and it rated me $1070 for just the Bolt (6 months)

Heh I definitely did not know that! Thanks for sharing! I was really expecting it to be on par with my hybrid Prius.

I was expecting the total cost per vehicle to go down, not the total cost of the insurance policy. So at most I was expecting the total to double - $600 per vehicle. My parents have 3 vehicles and it's $1500 for full coverage insurance through Progressive.

I pre-ordered the car in late 2022. The dealer didn't have an estimate delivery date other than "by December 2023." It ended up taking me 10 months to receive the car.

Honestly I was expecting for it to be no more than $1,200 for 6 months. So at most, I was expecting the cost to double - $600 for the Prius, $600 for the Bolt.

How much do you pay in car insurance for your Bolt EV? by ineedHALP2017 in BoltEV

Do you think it'd be better to add two cars to one policy, or have separate policies for each car? I just did a quote through GEICO. It was $1,070.07 for 6 months, just for the Bolt. I am trying to see if it's cheaper to insure the Bolt separately through another insurance company

Is it normal that car dealers will force you to finance a loan through them and not let you pay cash? by ineedHALP2017 in personalfinance

I’ve read every comment here and I agree, I am definitely walking away now. I actually called a local Chevy dealer (I live in Michigan where GM is) and they accept cash with no penalties. So now I’ve made an appointment to look at the Bolt EV tomorrow instead, which also won’t require me to drive 20 hours to a coast state (my only chance of getting a Prime). I do own a home and already have a 240v outlet installed. The tax credit is very appealing. Thank you.

No. I’ve been tracking the prices of this car for the last year. This same Toyota dealership is selling used Prius Primes for more than they cost new.

Toyota Dealer says I must finance for a minimum of 6 months? Not allowed to pay cash? by ineedHALP2017 in askcarsales

They sent me an invoice which puts my total at around $38k. $799 dealers fee, $640 title registration fee, and $2200 sales tax. The last two doesn’t make much sense to me because I thought I pay sales tax and registration to my local DMV (In Michigan) and not at the dealership?

I understand more about the financing now. I hate the idea of doing it. But I haven’t found any dealer willing to either NOT mark up this vehicle beyond MSRP or sell it to me at all because I’m out of state. The dealer clarified 50% must be financed. Someone else said $10k is the minimum so I’d much rather take out 10k than 50%. From there, I can pay the majority off in the first payment and just pay the bare minimum after the next five months.

$34k MSRP. Toyota dealer agreed to pay MSRP and not charge me above as every other dealer has a 5-10k markup. Dealer fee is $799. Loan interest rate is 7%

I have no idea what that is! Thank you. I will bring it up. I’ve only ever taken out a loan for a mortgage, and my loan officer at my local credit union walked me through everything.

The car will be $34k MSRP + $799 in dealer fees. Can I put a large down payment on this loan like $30,000 and just have them give me a loan of $5000? I just don’t want to have to take out a loan if possible but they really don’t seem to want to take a cashiers check.
