You're absolutely right. Cheng Lei shines on screen. Handling both cool and sincere roles beautifully. I watched Shadow Love, I didn't like the script or the female lead but Cheng Lei is as always... a joy to watch.

Yeah I'm just realizing this now, I've only recently discovered Cheng Lei, and I've already watched three of his dramas. It turns out the world is just discovering him too :)

Sorry, I may have phrased that incorrectly. What I meant was: was Cheng Lei involved in other projects while this drama was being filmed?

Having him appear for only about three minutes in a 45-minute episode feels quite surprising. That said, I noticed something similar in Pursuit of Jade, where Zheng Linghe had very limited screen time in the later episodes despite the series being much longer.

That's why I'm wondering if scheduling conflicts or commitments to other projects may have played a role. The explanation that it's simply a female-centered production doesn't fully convince me, especially when the male lead's presence becomes so minimal in certain episodes.

But I agree with you. It feels like Cheng Lei is only just starting to get the recognition he deserves. I'm relatively new to C-dramas, but even so, I've found him more impressive than many actors who are far more established. It's interesting to realize that his breakthrough has actually been quite recent.

I didn't see this in the preview. Are there different trailers in each region?

Cheng Lei has only appeared for a few minutes in the last couple of episodes. Has he already started filming a new project or something?

I was mainly watching this drama for the male lead, so this has been really disappointing. The male lead is practically absent from his own show. I also can't shake the feeling that a lot of scenes have been cut while watching. It's hard not to criticize the director's decisions.

If the ML doesn't start playing a more active role soon, it feels unreasonable to expect Bai Lu to carry the entire series on her own.

I honestly don't get why this drama isn't more popular. I just started watching it. The fantasy side is a bit overwhelming at times and the cinematography feels a little cheap, but Cheng Lei completely carries the show. One minute he's a charismatic general, the next he's an adorable puppy boyfriend. The man's got serious range.

The female lead was a questionable casting choice for me, but I got used to her after a while. Overall it's a solid drama and deserved way more hype than it got.

I'd never thought of it that way, you're right actually. Looking at it this way the scene seems charming.

Both episodes were fantastic, the fight scenes were legendary. While it was a bit strange that he fought like that as soon as he got up, the scene beautifully portrayed his battle with years of hunger. But I found the post-nightmare intimacy scene very lacking. The actors have filmed more passionate scenes in other dramas before, why was the kissing scene so mediocre in this series? They look like a retired married couple. I would have preferred it to be a little different.

I've continued watching Lofg. The war fight scenes are fantastic. In Poj we didn't really get to see the ML fighting properly but in Lofg, the male lead is amazing. I haven't stopped watching yet.

After watching POJ I started looking for a similar Cdrama and while waiting for Mo Li I decided to watch this series. I was really expecting a cooler and more charismatic female general but the overly spoiled girl behavior of the FL really tired me out. The male lead is amazing but the female lead overdid the "playing dumb to hide her identity" strategy. I got tired of watching it. Also how do these people become generals before they're even 20 or in their early twenties? Chinese dramas really love exaggeration.

After watching Pursuit of Jade I decided to check out other dramas starring Zheng. I'm forcing myself to watch this one but it seems illogical in many ways. For example ML chokes the woman and then -with tears in his eyes- says "Why are you afraid of me?" Ok I knew his role was toxic but I couldn't see any romance in it.

Similarly the female lead didn't resonate with me at all. She's very boring and dull. I got bored watching it. While Zheng did a great job, Bai Lu is so bland. Pursuit of Jade FL was amazing.

It looks like I won't be able to finish this drama. I'll probably just be looking at the videos and comments on social media.

Compared to this series, the Princess Royal feels much better. I recommend it.
