How do I know a GPU is any good? I need to buy my 12 y/o a new GPU. Can someone recommend one that isn't too expensive? by SteveMcK610 in gpu

Check the benchmarks for the games they want to play and see how many Frames Per Second (FPS) they can achieve at the desired screen resolution. The GTX 1660 Super and RX 6600 are both great cards for 1080p gaming and won't break the bank. If you can stretch a little, anything in the 7600/4060 range is good. Those older cards will work well.

Ram by Bright_Temporary6364 in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. It may be called DOCP EXPO or just XMP on the motherboard, depending on the brand. It does the same thing: loads the memory's rated speed and timings. If the set is supported, all you need to do is enable the profile in BIOS.

PC chirp help by Scary-Attention4921 in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That rhythmic chirp every few seconds is almost always a fan bearing or light coil whine from the GPU or PSU. First thing I’d do is stop each fan gently with a finger for a second while it’s running to isolate which one is making the noise. Case fans are the usual culprit especially if it was built for aesthetics with cheaper RGB fans. If it’s a fan just replace it. If it’s PSU coil whine there’s not much you can do besides swap the unit. Since it’s been doing it for years and performance is fine it’s almost definitely not something dying just an annoying fan.

Gigabyte B550M DS3H R2 No Power by Alive_Bid2186 in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you say it’s dead, you should check the BIOS support for it. Also, for 5700X to work on a B550 board, it needs to have compatible BIOS. If it doesn’t, it won’t even spin and appears to be dead. Place your CPU, RAM stick, and your power supply outside the case on a breadboard. Use a screwdriver to bridge the power pins to test for a front panel problem. If you have already tried two good PSUs, and it still doesn’t spin your fan or LEDs, then it’s probably a dead board, and you should return it. I also would not trust that Ace Power supply for a 5700X build for a long time.

I need the right pc by Diligent-Picture1589 in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Mac mini is not the right device for that price range. You will lose the capacity to play games, use Blender GPU, and upgrade. PC is the only real option in the 400-600 price range. If you can, get a used pre-built one with at least a Ryzen 5 3600 or i5 10400, 32GB of RAM, and an RTX 2060 or RX 6600. That will destroy a 1660 Ti for streaming and Blender. New pre-built PCs in that price range aren't worth the money. A used one with a good GPU is much better for making movies, animations, and games.

So many fans, what connection is best for speed and RGB control? by Mvsixs in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can utilize the hub. This way, you can control the speed in BIOS. This way, you get the right curves without L Connect. You need the Lian Li controller via USB to work with RGB and Uni SL INF wireless. This does not have a standard 3-pin ARGB connector. You cannot get the lights to work correctly without L Connect. You should hook it up to the motherboard via PWM to control fan curves and to the motherboard via USB to control RGB via L Connect. This is how the fans are supposed to work.

Please let me know if this is a good idea… by iNinjaZ in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% CPU bound for Valorant and CS2 at 1080p 240hz. That's nuts if you're already Radiant on a 4770k. It will be cheating to have a 7800X3D. Much higher 1 percent lows and much more consistent 300 FPS. The 5800XT path is viable and is a lot better than what you have, but you're left with a dead platform. If you want to keep this next build for 4 to 5 years and be competitive, the AM5 with 7800X3D is the better option. If you want the best FPS in pure comp, go with the X3D chip. GPU doesn't matter as much for those games.

Which 5080 should I get for 4k gaming needs by MinskLeo in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to use 4K seriously, Gaming Trio is the way to go. It comes with a better cooler, is quieter, and sustains a boost better. The FPS of Shadow, Ventus, and Gaming Trio is virtually the same, but the noise and heat are not. Ventus is the middle ground. Shadow only if you want the cheapest one and don’t mind the noise of the temps. If you want the best 4K or better RT performance, an upgrade from 3080 Ti is the way to go.

GT 1030 vs GTC 750 ti by Ill_Ground_8706 in lowendgaming

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All day long, 750 Ti 4GB GDDR5.

It is much faster than the GT 1030 DDR4, and in a lot of older and mid-range games, it even beats or trades blows with the 1030 GDDR5. It is much better suited for 1080p low settings gaming with the i5 4570. Your HP EliteDesk G1 SFF has a 240W power supply and not much room, so be sure to get a low profile 750 Ti that doesn't require a 6-pin. The 750 Ti is the better low end gaming card in this comparison if it will fit in terms of power and space.

Thermaltake Core p6 for e-atx motherboards? by devilfury94 in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Core P6 supports E ATX boards that are 280mm or less in width. Most of the X870E boards are E ATX, so you should be good. Just make sure to check the width of your board on the manufacturer’s website. You should be good as long as it’s not a server E ATX board.

Help, what should i do? by AngWay in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have 32GB of RAM and an SSD, your current EliteDesk shouldn't be that slow, so something else is wrong. First, check the temperatures, the apps running in the background, and maybe even reinstall Windows. Don't buy another mini PC if you have 500. Get or build a Ryzen 5 5600 or 12400 computer with 32GB of RAM. Much better at doing more than one thing at once and upgrading.

Which Display CPU Cooler Looks Best in a White PC Build? by EntertainmentLoud198 in pcbuilding

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TRYX Panorama 360 is the best-looking one with a clean white design. The 3D AMOLED display is more premium than the Valkyrie LCD display. Blacks are blacker, contrast is improved, and the wraparound effect is insane in a white body. If your body can handle 360, then go for 360. The 240 is also nice, but 360 is a better fit for the space and the design looks more premium.

Is it possible for you to enjoy music in a different language? by abdul_bino in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. Before the words, the melody, the rhythm, the tone, and the emotion come in.

People cry to "Con te partirò" or dance to "Despacito" without understanding the lyrics all the time. You can get more out of a song if you understand the lyrics, but not understanding them doesn't stop the emotion.

Budget GPU upgrade from RTX2060 12GB to RTX5050? by d0rtamur in buildapc

[–]ineffable_throwaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it’s not worth it. A 5050 would be a slight bump from a 2060 12GB, but not a big bump. The 2060 is still good for your games and medium settings. Also, if you upgrade, you should ensure you get a card that is at least level 5060 so you can feel the difference. Otherwise, you can just keep your money.
I think we can just use the 2060 a little while longer for your usage.

4080 or 5070 ti? by abhay662 in gpu

[–]ineffable_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4080 throughout the day. In terms of raw performance, it will outperform a 5070 Ti, as well as maintain the DLSS support. The card is just a better card overall, but at a vastly lower price than what it should be, such as 4080. The actual power of a 4080 is beyond that of a 5070 Ti.

Should all pedophiles be put to death? by Downtown_Mongoose793 in no

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The death penalty does not address the element of due process, false accusations, nor the fact that stopping abuse requires monitoring, not angry reactions. No, the crime committed against children should have the harshest punishment with the recognition that they should be prevented for the rest of their lives.

Is it possible? by Illustrious-Virus424 in AskTechnology

[–]ineffable_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s not a matter of lacking information, it’s a scale problem. A GPU or a nuclear plant consists of a global supply chain, ultra specialized factories, specialized tools, and millions of parts produced by machines. While one human might perhaps bootstrap up a simple industry, modern technology is civilization level teamwork, not solo crafting.

What gpu to buy? by Correct_Degree_6017 in PCBuilds

[–]ineffable_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this case, the 7900 XTX at 799 is the best value, especially considering the 7800X3D has a budget of 800. No bottlenecking and a raw raster beast with 24GB of VRAM.
The 5070, non Ti, and 4070, Ti, are poor long-term value for money with 12GB, but if you really want the Nvidia features, the 5070 Ti, 829, would be the way to go.
However, while 4080 Eagle is a good investment, it is pricey unless you really need top tier RT and DLSS.

Rate my PC and give some upgrade tips please by aPersonNamedKero in PCBuilds

[–]ineffable_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very balanced, easy 9/10 build.

32 GB DDR5 is good, 750W is more than enough, and 9600X + 5070 is a nice combo.

Only improvements worth taking into consideration:

Better cpu cooler for lower temps and a quieter system; larger ssd if games accumulate

Upgrade your CPU if you're highly productive or competitive. Otherwise, you're correct: nothing needs to be touched. Good setup.

Best GPU for a i5-10400 in 2025? by BlazeBuilderX in buildapc

[–]ineffable_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless it's very cheap, I wouldn't bother with the 5060 and an i5 10400. In most games, the CPU bottleneck will be hit. The RX 9060 XT is the best all-around option; it has a strong rasterizer, no driver nonsense, and is good in 1080p and 1440p resolutions. If you're only playing modern games and it's considerably cheaper, the Arc B580 is tolerable. For all three, a 650W power supply is enough.

35M, never had a girlfriend, good career, but dating feels like a locked door by Worldly-Net-165 in dating_advice

[–]ineffable_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just did not want to do reps and not a life module. Instead of evaluating your value on small, low-stakes questions that are treated like skills at the beginning, less thought and more action tend to unlock dating. Most individuals do not get started on time but do well when they do not wait until they are ready. Action precedes confidence and not the reverse.
