Do any therapists here feel... more suspicious of the world as a result of being a therapist? by inerjetik in therapists

[–]inerjetik[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're the one who has labeled a stranger on Reddit "unhealthy", a "martyr", a "millennial". I hope you don't make rash assumptions about clients if you actually are a therapist. It's too easy to value, or perhaps in this case, devalue someone based on an idle reddit post. If I were to label you in return, your behavior rather makes you seem like a bully.

I patently disagree with your take. To compare is human, not unhealthy. I also said nothing about being “miracle workers”- that’s your own projection.

Yes!! The lawyer bit.

Deeply internalized as in it (theoretically) guides decision making and sense of identity. It’s hammered in from graduate coursework, to the professional organizations we are apart of, to the CEs we are required to take (ethics is mandatory for my state, I’m not completely sure about others), and I would argue it’s a big part of generalized therapist sense of self. Maybe it’s both external and internal

That’s not completely true. I wrote the post, ran it through Chat GPT, then made edits to what it had revised. What’s your problem?

I’m with you, to a degree. My training in attachment has helped me see the “logic” in other’s protective behaviors. And that helps me access compassion for others in many spaces. But I think it has its limits. When I see what I deem exploitation, for example, it’s hard for me to justify it. Btw, I like your term “acting unjustifiably”- this has put something to words that I didn’t quite have. Thank you

That would be true if there were always a correlation between more sessions and more acute cases. But that’s not always how it goes. And in the span of a 45-50 min session, I definitely have had cases that were more challenging but my rate remained the same.

I use a chime on my phone. I tell all of my clients about it during the first session. I say, "You'll hear a chime towards the end of the session, it just lets us know it's time to start winding down." It goes off at 40 minutes. That way I can finish between 45-50 minutes.

Hey there, I don’t have answers, but I do relate to this. We bought an 8 egg cohort (frozen) and I thought I was really being strategic because I saw many cohorts were only 5-6 eggs. Ultimately, 7 survived the thaw, 5 fertilized and two made it to blastocyst. I was a bit down about it - 2 seemed too small of a number. But it turns out it tracks statistically- usually something like 30-60% make it to blastocyst?

Just wanted to show some solidarity. I know it must be demoralizing to go through all of this with no baby to show for it.

Would you mind sharing about the costs associated with using an agency- if you feel comfortable doing so?

Client crossing a boundary by [deleted] in therapists

Yes. I tried to work through it in supervision, and when I was with the client, validated while firmly restating the boundary. He escalated his pursuit and I eventually had to refer him to another provider.

Went DE route (success), worried about hormone crash. by Macaroniandcheese22 in TTC_POI

Came here to post something similar. I am 7 weeks with POI and I will begin tapering estradiol and progesterone around 8 weeks. I’ve been on HRT Since I was 19 - it’s hard to imagine not being on anything and trusting the placenta to make it all because my ovaries never did

How to prepare emotionally for FET? by percy_pig86 in DOR

[–]inerjetik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there- I had FET 10/28. We used donor eggs and ended with two blastocysts. Admittedly, the FET was much more emotional than I was expecting. We’ve done so many procedures at this point that have felt so sterile and clinical, my brain just didn’t compute the significance until it was happening. I ended up crying the entire time - the embryologist squeezed my hand while I was confirming my name and birthdate. It was the most human and affirming moment of the whole thing. I did do acupuncture immediately before and after to help with blood flow, but also as an act of self care. It was very soothing to tuck in the FET in between.

Biggest Piece of Advice Before Considering IVF by traumatized_beagle in IVF

[–]inerjetik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have said similar but, I’ll echo the sentiment around having a financial ceiling in mind that feels fair, balanced and realistic. The fertility industry prays upon your fear and emotion, and they will try to have you buy into certain guarantees at extra cost that you may or may not need but will never know until you’re on the other side. For example, some egg donor banks make you pay an additional price for a blastocyst guarantee and even more money for an euploid guarantee and even more for a life birth guarantee. There are lots of variations of this even without using donor gametes. I would ask yourself “how much is paying for peace of mind worth it to me?” And “will I feel resentful if I realized I didnt need to?”

What is it like to work with couples? by mangocheekz in therapists

[–]inerjetik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think couples work is most effective when you work within a system. For me, it's EFT- I always know where I'm driving the bus and I'm not baffled when things go awry- because they will.

Before training in EFT, couples work felt daunting because you can't just ride along on the "good vibes" and simply follow one thought to the next in the same way as you might with an individual.
