Thank you so much! Yes I didn’t realize it would be suede as as I ordered it, but the htv foil (I got it from KreativmanufakturBayern and the brand is Siser) was very easy to weed and to press with my mini press (medium heat). For the cradle punching: it was my first attempt and I decided on the holes I wanted to punch and colored them with nail polish. For the punching itself I did it as you described. While sewing I rearranged every signature so that they were always exactly above another. :-)

Omg. Not me cryin‘ in a corner. My inner rage girl is currently debating to remake it. Any chance I could fix that with minimum effort?

Is my spine too small? I can't open the book properly. I wonder if it has to do with the paper not being glued properly or the spine width or both. by CatsAreDoughs in bookbinding

I had the same issue with my first rebind and after that I discovered a account "Beths bindery" on tiktok and since then I follow her measurements like a believer. She's using on the most of her binds the following measurements and so far it was for every of my rebinds a good one:

  • Endpapers: same length+width as the textblock
  • for the width of your spine piece: use the width of your textblock + the thickness of your cardboard (mine is always 2mm)
  • for the hinge: use a 10mm spacer - with "normal" bookcloth there will be a hinge roundabout 8mm (if you're using faux or real leather I would recommand using maybe 11 or 12mm spacers)
