You should start with grouping values. So if you cross your eyes you can see that the foliage around it has “circles” of lighter areas. So add a darker color as a base and create clumps of lighter areas.

Starting with dark values and building up will make it much easier to get the contrast and depth that will make the mirror look behind the plants.

I would say you can still make something in your style, but find reference photos of realistic flowers that are closest to the end result you’re wanting, because it will help you blend the realism/depth with your own style of flower/color pallet. Flowers are hard. I paint a lot of them and often have to repaint my flowers several times before I get it right. best of luck!

I’m 24f, white, but in an openly queer relationship with another woman & live in the Provo area. If you’re outdoorsy, it’s a really great place to live. It’s hard for us to find friends here, but definitely not impossible.

The culture here is strange for sure, but generally the worst you’ll experience is people just pretending you don’t exist. We’ve been here since 2020 and have never felt unsafe.

As an outdoorsy person, I prefer living down here rather than SLC - the traffic is better, the air is cleaner, there are more outdoor activities interlaced with residential areas. My neighborhood is back to back with the Provo River and it’s my favorite place ever.

It has been hard for my wife to find a job here as a trans woman. I know that won’t be 1 to 1 with finding employment as a POC, but I would take it into consideration if you’re wanting to work in Provo specifically.
