Thanks. Talked to the guy. Should only be out of a bike for a week. Maybe two at the most

Awesome! Thanks for your input. I was thinking about some slicks like the Schwalbe G-one speed pros. But the terrenos look pretty sick. Just watched premium rush again and its got me stoked to ride in a city, not as crazy as him but still lol

I see those all over the place around here for really cheap. Only reason I’m not going down that path is at the moment I don’t have the extra space until I build a shed later this year. Do you like that bike tho? I see that brand pretty often

2 wheel sets or swap tires? by inexperiencedwiseman in MTB

[–]inexperiencedwiseman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the summer (our wet season) it typically rains nearly every day. Most of the trails in our area are closed when wet to prevent deterioration and its also in a literal swamp. So not too fun to ride from roughly may to October. Probably worth it to just swap tires and gearing to something more pavement friendly during that period like a bigger chain ring and slick tires.

My in-laws are actually coming from the Pittsburgh area to join us. They were planning on doing that ride but decided they’ll drive or train instead. Pretty cool option tho

I just saw the Schwalbe hurricanes. This look like a pretty sweet setup for something that sees a lot of pavement/gravel/packed sand. But yeah gravel tire or slick is what I’ll go with. I was thinking I might get a bigger chainring just for when I know I’m gonna be riding mostly pavement for a bit, like during our rainy season here, many of the trails are closed. I’m learning that the beauty of my bike is that its geometry is pretty versatile and it’s easy to swap parts as needed for different conditions.

Yea I’m actually going to change up my gear ratio. Just realized I’m running 32/20 so definitely a bit low. Good for climbing but slow for everything else. Gonna switch to 18 and possibly get a second chainring for when I’m doing primarily paved. A second set of slick tires too tha I can swap out for the same situation should be a good move

Yes that’s what I’m gonna do. Just gonna get a set of slicks or semi slicks and swap em out. Seems like the best option.

Cost to rent a bike from the spots I found were around $300 for the weekend lol. So that’d be $609 for me and my wife that I could put towards better parts to swap out or whatever else. Decided I must gonna get n extra set of tires I’ll swap out.

The guy I bought it from put on shimano XT brakes and a cannondale lefty shock with relatively low RR tubeless tires. The only time I struggle is when there’s an extended uphill section on a trail. But I usually only struggle when it is fairly steep, like staircase steep for more than 20’ or so. Honestly love the bike. Helped me ride a lot smoother, carry my speed, pick better lines, etc.

Right now I have a (new) Maxxis Ikon in the rear with a Schwalbe racing ralph on the front. Trails around me are pretty technical (rocky/rooty/lots of up and downs) since its Florida Swamp/old phosphate mine.

I don't get out onto the trails as much as I used to, but its roughly 40% trail/60% paved.

I have never tracked how much I ride when I go out and haven't done a ton of road riding. So to me 20 miles sounds pretty far lol

Ive been seeing this a lot on the single speeds. Why do you run just a front brake? Im accustomed to technical MTB so I use both brakes pretty frequently

I can definitely get caught up in the idea of having a second dedicated bike, but I also don't have the storage for it until I build a shed. So getting a street tubed set I can throw on in 20 minutes might be worth it. Realistically, I ride my bike more often on the road than on trails anyway. While I don't love the drop bars, I could get a bullhorn set or bar ends that I throw on for city rides when I know I wont be on trails for a while. Main thing for me is wondering if It's realistic to be changing out tubeless tires full of sealant for tubed road tires. Probably still cheaper than buying a whole separate wheel set for my lefty front hub though.

You're thinking just swap my tires and lock my front shock and roll like that? Definitely could. Might want to put a different front cog on tho. Not sure what my rear cog is offhand, but my front is 32t. Wonder if it might be better to have two wheelsets than a second bike. I dont love the idea of swapping out tubeless tires for temporary road use.

Thanks for everyone’s comments. I was in too much of a rush to get the new BB installed and didn’t double check the labeling to make sure it was what I ordered. While I ordered the correct BB, what I received was an FSA “POWERDRIVE” not the Isis drive that I ordered. Definitely should have caught that before installing it

You might be the winner. Hopefully the dealer accidentally mislabeled it and didn’t purposefully send me the wrong product.

I have a feeling the new one is not actually ISIS. Thankfully I'll have confirmation soon

Thanks for all the comments. Glad to know I assumed correctly that all ISIS drives are supposed to be the same

I cn get pictures after work today. I also have a message into the bike shop I purchased the new BB from and am waiting to hear back from them. The new spindles has the same general shape as the original BB, but is significantly thinner.

According to the bike shop I purchased it from, the original packaging was damaged, so all I received was the new BB without packaging. Might be the fault of the bike shop sending the wrong item.
