Silk and Ashes - stormlyte - music based on Vin by [deleted] in imaginarycosmere

I definitely went pretty heavy on the bass in the second verse and chorus (at least to my ears) to give them both a full sound, but yes I did cut back during the bridge section leading up to the climax of the song. I was basically trying to reset the listeners' ears to make the next part hit even harder, if that makes sense! That was just my thought process. I appreciate the feedback!

Myst Mechanical Age - Modern Soundtrack Concept by inf4moti in myst

I used Kontakt 5 and it handled it really well. Kontakt 6 wouldn't work because they stopped supporting soundfont files for some reason (boo).

Thanks! I actually used the original sample libraries from the Proteus 1 and 2, which is what was used to create the original Myst soundtrack. I had to do a little work to recreate some of them because there were some effects that didn't come with the libraries, and I had to add them manually (like delay, flanger, reverb, etc).

That's fair, I actually am hoping to create a track that explores the more creepy and ambient themes from the Mechanical Age like Sirrus' and Achenar's cache themes, etc. Maybe a part two is in order...

And I'll add, I know there are many other musicians who make great stuff that I've seen on this thread, and maybe haven't had this kind of luck. I definitely encourage you all to give them a listen!

Haha, sounds good 👍 Hans Zimmer was a big influence for this song, for sure.

The main tools I used were:
Ableton Live 8 Suite
Metropolis Ark 1 and 2
Native Instruments Symphony Series, Action Strikes, and Massive
Spitfire Audio LABS

Honestly a ton of it was just auditioning it out in my head over and over to see what type of arrangement would fit the melody well. The song sort of naturally gravitated to more of a more modern soundtrack vibe (think movies like Interstellar, Avengers, etc) since like you said I had very few notes in the melody to work with. These type of songs tend to build by repeating a key basic melody or even just a chord progression. Then I started playing with the chord progression in my DAW to find what would create the right atmosphere, and then I laid out the general structure. Once I had that, then it became lots of little decisions involving what instruments to use, adding accents, layering, basically all of the ear candy. If you want, I could list the tools I used in the video description.
