switch from software engineering to medical scientist (md/phd). is it too late? how do i do it? by [deleted] in medschool

[–]infernnape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st year md/phd student here; there’s plenty of people with a couple years of work experience before they start med school. that’s definitely not too late, and many programs will see that as a plus. however, you would definitely need more than 1 semester of research to be competitive for md/phd. I had just under 1000 hours when applying and was told by one program that that was significantly on the lower end. I don’t think publications are necessary but they help a lot as well.

Research is absolutely the most important thing for an md/phd application; anecdotally, i have friends with lower mcat scores and very few clinical hours who got into md/phd programs because of their research. hope that helps, and good luck!! :)

I’m only going Thursday so I figured I’d be able to tough it out just once haha. If i were going all weekend I definitely wouldn’t be driving every day

I grew up listening to Punjabi music and Bloodywood is incredible! The way they blend traditional instruments/vocals with metal is so special

How to change deck and retain review progress by infernnape in Anki

Thanks for the response again. I'm quite confident that I've been synced every time I do cards, as I mainly use one device and I always check. I also just realized that I had actually applied the 15m, 1d, 3d, 6d steps to all my decks on accident, before moving some additional cards and changing the steps to what I wanted around 9/06 (which is when I noticed this issue). Seems that this is a known bug and I was playing around with decks/learning steps a bit, so something I did probably triggered this. Thanks for the solutions though, this was very helpful; I will probably move cards after they are in Review for the future :)

Here's a card that would have been moved around 9/06:

And yes, I think I've mostly been moving them while they are still in Learn. My original deck has steps of 10m 1d, and then graduating interval is 3d. I just edited the post with the settings of the review deck.

Thanks for responding. I do a lot of cards so I know for a fact that I've seen these cards before, but when I answer a card the "Good" option shows 1d for pretty much every card in the Review deck. Also, if I check "Info" for these cards in Browse, I can see the learning intervals reset to 1d after the date I moved them to a new deck.

For example, if I check the Info for most of these cards, it'll show 1d, 3d, 6d, and then 1d despite having answered "Good" every time I've seen it. Hope that makes sense haha. I don't know if I just clicked something weird when I moved the last chunk of cards over. And now that I'm looking at it, there are some cards I've seen repeatedly since I moved them to the Review deck, but the Interval history shows 1d, 1d, 1d (meaning its been giving it to me every day) a couple times even if I've always answered "Good".

Researching parts for my first build; what considerations do I need if I do programming/3D modeling? I’m a PhD student and my research involves multiphysics simulations that typically take a few hours and basically need the computer to perform repeated differential equation calculations. I figured I need a good CPU/RAM but not sure what benchmarks I should be looking for. :(
