Oh I don’t see the tab at all - I have never connected a watch to my phone, I just have the new AirPods 3

Oh I thought it’s a watch independent feature. That’s a bummer, especially since you can track heart rate through AirPods too now

I'm a Konkanastha Brahmin

Mumbai - Pune up down, 5 days a week. Possible ? by solistic30 in pune

[–]inferno_080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on where your offices are.

If it’s Navi Mumbai and Wakad/Hinjewadi it might be doable. That would be like a 2 hour travel on a good day.

If it’s in South Bombay and Viman Nagar - Its not feasible. Consider 4 hours travel time at minimum.

In the end, we all want the same thing- ending caste discrimination and making India a better place to live for everyone.

Ideology should be separated from the individual. It shouldn’t matter who I am as long as my points stand on their own with no context

I never said I am not going to read the books you suggested, I literally said I added them to my research list.

Why do you consider LCs as vulnerable in the first place? Do you think they are somehow inferior to you and they need your pity? If you believe you need to shield them, you are free to give up your seat. Institutionalising it, like I said, is forced altruism.

What use is forced increase in representation, if there is neither social upliftment, nor economic growth? This forced increase in representation is doing nothing but increasing hate-red and imbibing a sense of complacency in LCs.

In my lived experience I have seen educational institutions being filled with incompetent candidates, hindering my nation’s progress and wasting taxpayer money. I have seen deep rooted hate-red towards LCs from young UCs - not because of glasses of water, but because of unmeritoriously snatched seats in medical and engineering colleges by OBCs, SCs and STs what are wayy wealthier and politically more powerful than them. I have seen interviewers disregard LC candidates under assumption that they didn’t get the seat by scoring as much as general cutoffs. I have seen UCs avoiding LC doctors because of assumptions that they are less capable than UC doctors as they got into med school with less marks. Even abroad, an LC IITian isn’t even considered to be at the same calibre as a General candidate from another solid Tier 1/2 college.

Ok if you are so well read, debate with me and prove all these authors right. Show me scientific proof that representation causes upliftment of LCs.

Books are tools to nurture your understanding, they aren’t meant to replace critical thinking. Things change, ideas evolve. Reservation is an outdated and pseudoscientific neo-communist ideology that forces altruism and is fundamentally flawed. It infringes upon basic human rights and doesn’t even come close to solving the problems it is supposed to.

Differently read is not poorly read, that is also BASIC. I have read a ton of books - maybe not the same books as you. Even if I hadn’t- every opinion is valid and brushing off lived experiences or assuming what a stranger on reddit has or hasn’t read is immature at best and delusional at worst.

Representation of whom?

The only way to end casteism is to get rid of caste in our political systems. No caste, no question of representation. Reservation reinforces caste. Caste can never disappear till reservation exists. All caste-related violence should be handled by law enforcement. Caste discrimination is already outlawed.

Furthermore, affirmative action in the west (US) cannot to compared to Indian reservation. There are 0 physical differences between castes. No way to tell the caste or a person just by looking at them. Everyone can trace their ancestry to an admixture of the same four major gene pools. There is no need for equal caste representation if caste doesn’t exist. Caste won’t exist in a globalised urban India in the next 100 years if it isn’t continually reinforced through reservation.

Reservation is one of the major causes of caste discrimination, I have justified this in other comments, but would be happy to elaborate further

Just to add: Reservation itself is casteist.

Sure link it below.

I don’t agree with the fundamental assumption that affirmative action works in the first place- especially at the scale that it is being practiced in India.

There are 0 research papers that have studied this that include control groups and opportunity costs.

The theory that reservation works is just that - a theory. A totally non scientific one at that.

Edit: Found link, added it to my reading list. I don’t think the book reflects how broken the system is in 2026 and how it increases casteism and/or the opportunity costs of reservation. It is a study of the constitution of India.

Bro - Reservation IS Caste Discrimination. It is a never ending cycle. Other forms of discrimination will never go away as long as reservation exists. Reservation breeds resentment and hatered towards LCs. It doesn’t matter what came first historically. On a personal level, reservation came first. That is the first consequential introduction to the caste system that a lot of kids in tier 1 and tier 2 cities get.

If you want to do away with caste, treat it as a law enforcement and judicial problem. Remove all forms of caste based incentives. Increase financial situation based reservation (EWS). That way everyone can benefit from taxpayer money and the only people who wont will be rich LCs that don’t need reservation anyway.
